This news won't get as much press as it deserves. But it is freaking huge.

Most people don't know that nutrition comprises a BIG part of having a good S&C program.

This will help especially for the bigger guys.

Yeah. A lot of fans have been calling for it for years. I know the all the big programs have had this. It doesn't just help with conditioning and nutrition (you don't have you big guys gaining weight during the season --- more work=more eating)...and you have more team unity because they eat literally every meal together.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think it's just one meal a day.***

You'd think it'd be an integral part of S&C

Training tables are relatively new under NCAA rules and are rapidly evolving. They used to be forbidden altogether as an extra benefit. Currently, they are limited to one meal a day. As recently as 2007 it was against the rules for anyone but scholarship athletes to participate. Colorado received a massive NCAA probation solely for "misuse" (allowing walk-ons) of training tables. Members of the same athletic team had to be segregated based on arbitrary rules. This didn't change until after 2009, I believe. Clemson is not nearly as behind the curve on this as the S&C haters would have you believe. FSU implemented theirs in 2010 when Jimbo became head coach.

Nope, you're not the only one. Before firing Batson, fire who ever has held this up for so long. Imo, Nutrition is one of the most important factors when putting on muscle.

Re: Am I the only one who finds it mind-boggling that we don't

Jul 17, 2012, 9:56 AM

To fire the one who didn't allow it, you had to fire the NCAA. One of their stupid rules as an extra benifit. We have had someone who works with athletes after their playing days are over to help them become "normal"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It better be open to ALL athletes...

Jul 16, 2012, 10:12 PM

and Clemson already had a nutritionist unless she left when her husband did.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It better be open to ALL athletes...

Jul 16, 2012, 10:18 PM

I think the training table is more of a concept/regimen than just having a nutritionist.

If I recall correctly, I think the players have individualized eating schedules and regimens. Basically having someone give them the food they eat for the day.

Tajh himself said his biggest problem his first couple of years was eating Zaxby's 3-5 time per week. Not good on the football body.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But Clemson already HAD a nutritionist...

Jul 16, 2012, 10:22 PM

on staff unless she left when her husband (Chris Ip) did.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

shut it. baseball sucks...

Jul 16, 2012, 10:37 PM [ in reply to It better be open to ALL athletes... ]

kidding...i agree it should be something for all sports - a training table is a HUGE benefit when sport/training specific.

And I think you're correct on the nutritionist - a woman, maybe?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dr. Loreto Jackson...

Jul 16, 2012, 11:54 PM

Performance Coordinator. Her husband is Chris Ip, but since the swimming teams are gone, he may have left and she may have gone with him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dr. Loreto Jackson...

Jul 17, 2012, 12:45 AM

She had to consult at least once with every single athlete at Clemson. That is pure ridiculousness. The football team needs their own nutritionist to design diets for every position group and monitor their adherence, which I assume is what Dabo is referencing.

I thought that is what the 1st floor of Sclitter Dining hall

Jul 17, 2012, 6:31 AM

was but we had to stop using it when Mauldin stopped being the football dorm. Did the rules change, or is this just one the NCAA no longer enforces.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is correct....

Jul 17, 2012, 7:54 AM

but that became a thing of the past when the NCAA decided that athletic-only dorms and training tables constitute an extra benefit that is not available to regular students and, therefore, would be a violation of NCAA rules.

Rules changed. NCAA outlawed football dorms and training tables. Now they changed to allow training tables for one meal a day. Way it was in 60's when I was football manager. ate night meal on training table, other meals -on your own.

Re: Football Update: Training table to start in fall camp

I'm sitting at my training table now, reading T-net looking at the sunrise and wishing I was parked in our parking space tailgating getting ready to watch the Tigers take with Authority a Win

Starting in "fall camp"? It should have started in January.

Jul 17, 2012, 7:08 AM

And we wonder why we have not sustained success. Ever wonder why we hit the wall and pull a "Clemson" later in the football season? S&C, including nutrition, pure and simple.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Starting in "fall camp"? It should have started in January.

Jul 17, 2012, 7:55 AM

Yep, with more emphasis on professional "training" and less on "table" I'd hope

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They are just figuring this out !?

Jul 17, 2012, 9:34 AM

Last year a lot of Tiger Netters were commenting on how our linemen looked like a bunch of lard butts.... fat guys in orange tights .... good nutrition is fundemental ... you want muscle not fat .... a pound of muscle has less MASS then a pound of fat ... yada, yada, yada

Better late then never

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

All you people are assuming we just didn't do this

Jul 17, 2012, 10:02 AM

Under NCAA rules it was an illegal "extra" benifit. They just changed the rules. Plus the NCAA has to give you permission.
All you Dabo doubters don't know as much as you think.
