Deer Disgruntled professors

Dec 15, 2011, 12:01 PM

I would be willing to petition and lobby for you to get a significant raise, but you must do the following.

First, you must have at least 85 students in your class, and you are responsible for keeping all of them out of trouble, as well as donating your time to mentor each one every week. Your office door must always be open.

Your new work hours are fron 6:00 am to 10:00 PM, and possibly later. Sorry 70 hour weeks are now your new schedule. You get Sunday mornings off, that is it.
You must fly all over the country, being away from your family to recruit the top student minds to clemson. You must sit in their living rooms and convince their parents to send them to clemson, as well as text them every day, and call them on the phone and talk to their HS teachers at least once a week.

Your students who do go into their desired field, must also earn at least 1 million per year, and at least 70% of them must graduate.

You must be willing to go on television and speak to the media every week. Your life will now be heavily scrutinized, every thing you say will be remembered and you will be criticized in the press constantly should you fall short in any way.

You will have to understand that you may lose your job at any time should your students not perform well on tests. DO not be surprised if their classmates egg your house for this, or call your wife at home and threaten her.

Also understand, that on average, you will be looking for a new job every 3-4 years for reasons outside of your control. You will move a LOT, and will not be able to lay roots at any time in your career, because about 3 in 100 actually last at their institution for more than 10 years a that salary.

You have to find some way to get people to line up out the door every saturday to watch your students. If we do not find it interesting, then the ticket sales that help pay your salary will plummit, and you will be fired, no questions asked.

these coaches put in a ton of hours a year. Not just during football season.

Way too much common sense for a Professor!

Professors do put a lot of time in as well.

Dec 17, 2011, 12:26 AM [ in reply to Nicely said Balm ]

They have to read tons of tomes. Well, I guess it really depends on which department they are in.

Re: Was it really a PRTM prof? If any professor deserves to

Dec 15, 2011, 12:09 PM

their are professors who get over 1 million per year, but they also generate 10 and sometimes 100 of millions of dollars in grants to the respective universities, and their students go on to be some of the top people in their field on a yearly basis.

This is the way the world work in any profession. If you can not sell and generate mega revenue for your company, you will not make the high 6 and 7 figure salaries.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well stated.***

Re: Deer Disgruntled professors

Dec 15, 2011, 12:34 PM

Just like a bunch of lazy hippies wanting more money. I think the professors are watching the Occupy Protests too much.
How about the fact that the football team draws more exposure to the University than other outlets.
Hey, I love my Clemson degree and the fact that we are top 20 public, but, how do you think alot of the top research students and dollars get exposed to Clemson?
Thru the sports programs!
This is the world we live in!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

professors = lazy hippies

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Deer Disgruntled professors

Dec 15, 2011, 12:34 PM

Also understand that a large chunk of these salary packages for coaches come from endorsement deals. I do not see anyone begging these 30 hour a week professors to get on TV and use their name to sell their products.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Disagree!

Dec 15, 2011, 12:42 PM

Fellow Tigernetters, maybe I missed it, but the Chemistry professor was complaining about not being paid like the new professors who are being hired at CU. I think that it was the Anderson Independent that mentioned Morris' raise. If I missed another quote, then please disregard.

See y'all in S. Beach!!! Go Tigers!

here is the direct quote

Dec 15, 2011, 1:58 PM

McGuire also said, “I realize that football is sacred and money is generated. But for 10 percent to go to one person in one year, and he’s only been on campus for one year? That’s outside the realm of reality.”

It is in huge font on the side of the article

A few more,...

Dec 15, 2011, 12:44 PM

You don't get to teach the same classes year after year using the same notes you developed only one time.

You don't get Summers off.

If you behave like an arrogant know-it-all besterd, abusing your students simply because you can, you WILL eventually get fired.

well said! one other thing:

Dec 15, 2011, 4:40 PM

a good football program does a heckuva lot more to attract better students than a good professor. that's not to say that good faculty does not attract better students too -- but the impact isn't even close.

again, very well said. you nailed it.

You also forgot no summer vacations and no sick days. They also have to watch film of their students taking test and break down their study habits and tendencies. Your student must qualify for math and history bowls. Also their will a limited number of other professors to help you. 85 students how about the walk ons. Also you must travel atleast 6 times a year with all of your students to different colleges to compete in academic test.
