Bryant wants to be deep threat in Clemson offense

Bryant wants to be deep threat in Clemson offense

Chad Morris has said that for his offense to work he needs to throw the deep ball at least four times per quarter in order to keep defenses honest. Enter Martavis Bryant. Full Story »

I am looking forward to having that tall Aaron Kelly like target out there again.
Good stuff.

Aaron Kelly with blazing speed!***

Hopkins, Bryant, Watkins, Peake. Tall wrs and at lest 2 of them can absolutley fly. Tajh has got to be able to deliver the ball bc these guys should be open often.

I think I can speak for all of TNet, Martavis, when I say

Love these guys' work ethic. All the guys coming in and already here, for that matter, seem to understand that to be the best it takes working harder than everyone else at everything. I think we are building a team and coaching staff of winners. Keep up the hard work Martavis and it will pay off for you.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Running a 4.34, you can be that guy. Spiller, Ford, etc...***

That's gotta help.

Clemson's last 6' 5" guy with speed like that

Jun 23, 2011, 8:48 PM

was Stan Rome

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Derrick Hamilton

Jun 25, 2011, 5:14 PM

wasn't he about 6-3,DH?
Think his 40 was listed at 4.5,but man.Did anyone
catch him from behind?Very deceptive speed eh.

When talking about bigger receivers with good speed,
another one that comes to mind for me is Gary Cooper
in the late 80s.How good was he on those reverses.

didn't he leave early for the NFL - didn't due much there did he? anyone know what he's up to now?

Yea,left after his Jr year..

what a huge mistake.
May have been Clemson's best receiver ever along with

Will celebrate when someone sees him in a desk in class

Jun 23, 2011, 11:11 PM

While he is EXACTLY the type of player we need on the field on Saturdays this fall, he still has a lot of baggage he's trying to put behind him. I certainly hope that he is not the second coming of Roscoe Crosby, who was unfairly labeled as the 'answer' and could not handle the pressure of football & personal issues. I hope that the football staff puts a grad assistant with him to make sure he can succeed at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Will celebrate when someone sees him in a desk in class

Jun 24, 2011, 7:43 AM

He's moving in this weekend and enrolling next week. He's in. Now, if he does his classwork and keeps his grades up.... That's another thing.

What kind of issues???????????

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Will celebrate when someone sees him in a desk in class

Jun 24, 2011, 8:12 AM

The only thing he could be talking about is academics. We do a really good job with side of the student-athlete equation, though. He'll be fine and he'll be a beast of a WR.

Re: Will celebrate when someone sees him in a desk in class

It doesn't matter what happens here somebody will always find fault. If grades is what he's talking about I don't think thats alot of baggage.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly.

Jun 24, 2011, 8:54 AM

Especially when you consider the grades thing was more of a mix-up than a performance issue. ######, his SAT score went up so much the clearinghouse threw it out and made him take it again. The kid has been exactly what you want: a true commit who took adversity in stride and overcame. He's gonna be a great Tiger!

Of course grades

Jun 24, 2011, 8:58 AM [ in reply to Re: Will celebrate when someone sees him in a desk in class ]

If you struggle to keep up your grades in SC, then you've got issues...if you go to a Football Daycare and still have to scramble to the last day (and still not make it on time), then I say you have issues. Perhaps he's just lazy or didn't care in HS or perhaps he has a learning disability---in any situation, I hope he's got it figured out and is a star at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm going to assume you don't know Martavis's story.

Jun 24, 2011, 9:02 AM

It wasn't an issue with his GPA, it was a transcript matter. The clearinghouse approved him last year, but too late for him to enroll. We went prep. The delay this year was disbelief over his SAT score. He had to take it again to prove it was legit. The kid will be fine AND a beast on the field.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My info is from one of his teammate's Dad at TL Hanna

Jun 24, 2011, 11:14 AM [ in reply to I'm going to assume you don't know Martavis's story. ]

It is somewhat similar to what you shared, but also to what I shared. It doesn't matter the past, but only the future and he will be in control of his own destiny. I hope the best for him and the Tigers.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

CJ Spiller like juke at 2:48 was pretty nice...

Jun 24, 2011, 12:11 AM

He's got great speed, but showed a few times in the highlight reel that he can stop on a dime and accelerate out of it too!

More than that, I love this quote: "But I'm not going to back down from anybody. We'll see what happens on the field".

Re: Bryant wants to be deep threat in Clemson offense

Jun 24, 2011, 4:33 AM

luv this guys tape!!!!!his transitions from catching the ball to making his move n heading upfield is something i havent seen in a clemson receiver...derrick hamilton wouldve been the closest...tavis is tenacious with speed to burn, and his strides are a thing of beauty... looks like a special player to me, hopefully he keeps his head on straight and stays in school:) dude could be epic

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Bryant wants to be deep threat in Clemson offense

Jun 24, 2011, 8:24 AM

He might be another Damarius Thomas, the receiver GT used so effectively. Same size and same speed. I like it. We saw last year against the coots what a great receiver can do. I hate to admit it, but Jefferies just about single handedly beat us. It's our time to soar.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think that he has the bulk/strength to be considered

Jun 24, 2011, 9:33 AM

like Thomas or Jeffries yet. I consider each of them NFL players still in college. Only time will tell.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't think that he has the bulk/strength to be considered

Jun 24, 2011, 9:42 AM

6'5", 200 lbs and blazing speed doesn't put him in the same category? Really?

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The definition of awesome!

Alshon Jeffries: 6'4" 233 lbs., D. Thomas 6'3" 229 lbs

Jul 5, 2011, 5:10 PM

They just seem more physical...I've only seen Bryant play once.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thomas is in the NFL.

Jul 5, 2011, 5:27 PM

And according to rivals Jeffery was 6'3" 214 lbs running a 4.5 out of high school.

I think Bryant will come through just fine.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And AJ Green was listed as 6'5 205 this past year.***
