Don't like this quote

“We saw some plays they messed up on, but they pretty much go by-the-book,” McClain said. “They run the draw, the screen and the power."

Sounds like the same thing boston college said about our offense. Hopefully we can throw some wrinkles into our predictable play book.

Isn't that what Clemson fans have been asking for?

A team that doesn't try to trick you to win. All I have heard is that we need an offense that says, here we are, this is what we are doing, now try and stop us. Thats what Danny Ford did.

That is what most everybody says but, that will change a few hours after they make those bold statements. A good football team don't care what you have seen on film on them. Ok, you know what we do, stop it. Just like a baseball pitcher, he may not have a pitch over 88mph. Can you hit the stuff he puts on them pitches.

I would love that if our team were capable of doing it.

Thus far they haven't been able to prove that they can.

Not 1980. Schollie limits & parity require unpredictability.

Maybe Danny Ford could stockpile enough big hosses to just run over other teams in 1980. But the scholarship limits that were implemented by the NCAA brought a lot more parity and so you don't see that anymore. So you're not likely to just blow good teams off the ball consistently (and block their linebackers and safeties) if they know where you're going. The offense needs to be unpredictable and create mismatches. It's possible to succeed if the defense knows what's coming, but your odds of success are a lot less. When teams know that you're going to run, they stack 8 in the box. When they know you're going to pass, they drop 7-8 into coverage. If it were as easy as lining up and running a dive-right everytime, then that's all any team would ever do. That's why the good teams hire brilliant OCs like Gus Malzahn, and mediocre teams like Clemson hire mediocre guys like Rob Spence and Billy Napier.

Remember how BC's Luke Kuechley laughed at Clemson after the game saying that BC's defense knew what Clemson's offense was going to do on almost ever down?

That's Clemson's predictable style of football and a large part of the reason Clemson's offense is mediocre at best. And that's why Doug Marrone fired Rob Spence and took over the playcalling at Syracuse before the end of Spence's first season. How many years did Bowden keep him around?
