My ACC Championship Game Experience

Watched the Bee beat down on the internet until 1:30 am Sunday morning and went to bed.

Got up around 8 am and my 75 year old Mom is in town for my 5 year old's 6th birthday. I said "Let's drive 3 1/2 hours each way (I live in Tarpon Springs, FL), take the 5 year old, and go watch The Tigers win the ACC Championship. She stood there in dumbfounded amazement, and then smiled and said "Let's GO ! ! !"

I had to beg my daughter to go, but told her maybe we could get Tiger players autographs on her Tiger hat. She finally relented.

I was running around LIKE AN IDIOT - - MapQuesting, sun screen, my wife was throwing Clemson gear on the little one, etc. etc. MapQuest said it was 220 miles and 3 hours and 40 minutes. HOLY COW - - we were going to miss opening pitch.

Long story not so short, we got to the stadium, a Clemson fan gave us 1 ticket, we bought 2 more for $16 and rushed in. Grabbed seats in the shade 10 rows behind 1st base, and saw Jack at home plate turning in the lineup card.

WE MADE IT ! ! ! ! It was THE MOST special Sunday I have spent with my daughter in a LONG time, maybe ever. We ended up moving down to the first row behind 1st base (was in the blazing sun and most fans were scrambling for shade). She decided Stan Widmann was her favorite (because he was #6), and she stayed into the game, clapping, cheering.

When we won, she was EXTREMELY anxious to get autographs. She sat on the wall with her feet dangling over, kinda down the line from everyone else. She got AT LEAST 10-15 autographs on her hat. Stan W. was loaded down with all kinda gear as he walked by - equipment, plaque, etc. - and Savannah called out to him to see if he would sign. He dropped everything and came over and let me take their picture together.

My daughter was THROUGH THE ROOF. One of the players let her see the trophy as he walked it off the field. AND THEN, Jack came over and INTRODUCED himself, and signed her hat and let me take a picture of them. (He also told her to go ahead and take her practice pitches, since we weren't beating the tar out of them or anything).

IT WAS AWESOME and we have a team that is beyond belief. It musta been 110 degrees down there in the sun, they had just won the ACC Championship, played 5 games in 5 days, had a bus ride back to Clemson, and they stopped and TALKED TO, and signed autographs, and made a 5 year old very impressed with ol Dad's (and Mom's) alma mater.

Clemson - - there is NO place like it.
