X's and O's

Jan 24, 2013, 10:37 PM

I keep hearing CoachB is a great x and O's coach where does this come from? We are young but can't keep players here? It seems to me talent level is here and we seem to get out coached more times than not.
If we are a great defensive squad them how do we continue to blow big leads?

Because our offense is inconsistent. We've held teams to around 50 points most games this year. If that isn't good defense, I'd like to see something better.

Ok agreed that is a great part of it.

First of all, we play fantastic defense.

Second of all, our half-court sets are light years better under Brownell than what we ran under Purnell. We get good looks, we just need to hit them.

I see your point so could that be a confidence problem or repitition problem?

I coach youth basketball and what you hear is true. CB is a solid X's and O's guy. The M2M defense is some of the fundamentally best you'll see. Offensively, there has been no one develop into a true outside shooter. Down the stretch FSU insisted on taking the inside and force it to the outside. We had good looks but no points (3-16 on ptr). The lack of outside shooting - now that part, I don't know if that is coaching or lack of skill.
As far as players leaving CB, I think that is due to style. CB is a heavy dose of pass and screen with motion from underneath. Looks very mid-west style and there are southern guys who might not like it. That's my two cents.

We play good D and it seems like we get good looks on O, we just don't have guys that can consistently knock down shots. All BB can do is design plays that get our guys open and put them in effective defensive sets. I think BB is a good coach, but you can't win if you can't knock down shots.
