Would we still determine a National Champion?

Aug 10, 2020, 3:01 PM

If only 2-3 conferences participate.

I think so

And what about eligibility in that scenario?

Aug 10, 2020, 3:07 PM

Would everyone get an extra year of eligibility, whether they play or not? Would no one get an extra year if there is some season, however few teams play? Or would they try to give the players whose schools/conferences "opted out" another year, but count this season against the eligibility of those who played? This could cause riots, for sure.

College football everywhere is fun and entertaining and all that, but when it comes to determining a national champion, the Pac-12 and Big-12 have no bearing at all, and the Big-10 has no bearing except for Ohio St.

So yeah, we'll be alright.

Imagine if the two playing were the PAC-12 and Big-12

Are we really gonna call Oklahoma the national champs if Clemson, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, LSU and Notre Dame didn't have a season? I wouldn't.

Of course.

We basically do that every year anyway.

It should in my mind, considering 13 of the last 14 National Champions have come from the ACC or the SEC.

it doesn't take much

1878, eleven teams, Princeton named national champions with a 6-0-0 record.
