So you sit on your couch drinking beer and watching basketball. When you see an underdog team playing well you start posting on t-net that CU should hire said coach without any clue of the coaches history or overall record. Very nice as you should fit right in

Since Wofford's coach has his team playing in the NCAA Tournament and not the prestigious NIT. Not to mention a better record. Garsh darnnit!

Wofford has spent another $3M on basketball this year that kid might have been able to hit 2-3 more three pointers and Wofford would be heading to the 16.

Wofford's coach has been there since when Shyatt was our coach.
He turned in about 5 straight losing seasons, 2 seasons at .500 overall. Then took till year 8 to win anything.
He has been up/down (but competitive since 2010). Still, he has 8 losing seasons in 17 years. A few of those recent.
Young is likely a Wofford coach for life. In reality, they could have canned him a few times for sub .500 outings. We are complaining about a guy going 9-9 and 20 wins after a sweet 16 bid as a failure but Youn g has turned a second round season to a 15-17 season the next.
Good coach, not an ACC level coach.

Hard to compete with Kentucky when Woffords A.D. has denied every request Coach Young has made to level the playing field with UK. He lobbied to have the student body increased from 1600 to 26000 and was denied

Wofford's transition from D II to D 1. The guy is a heck of a coach. Whether he'd ever come here is another topic, he was interviewed when BB was hired

That’s the problem with Clemson hiring mid-major coaches
Mar 23, 2019, 5:33 PM

Success on that level is not predictive of success in major college basketball, and certainly not at Clemson.

it might as well be one who knows the state and area like the back of his hand for recruiting contacts who has won at a high level at a place no one else had before. Heck, he had enough sense to be one of the 3 schools to offer Morant.

He did not lead them in the transition and the first tourney was in 2010. Actually a LOT of programs transitioned to NAIA or from DII from about mid 1980s to mid 90s. (again, the rise of the mid majors).
Mike Young is a sub .500 coach in the SoCon. GOod, great fit for Wofford, not Clemson.
To be a clemson coach, you have to be a top 30 coach just to finish middle pack

You do know as a low major you play a bunch of sacrificial lamb games to bring money in to the program dont you? And he plays big time OOC opponents. At 4 tourney teams this year plus SC, where they won by 20.
Even got home games from NC this year and SC last year

But if we're unwilling to pony up that kind of cash, which is our history, a guy like Young would be worth the gamble IMO. If he came here he'd be a lifer, he wouldn't jump to another job, he'd view us as his last job. He has 20+ years of local recruiting relationships, something you know Brad really struggled to develop in his early years. And the guy can coach. He's proven that. He knows how to build a sustainable program.
I'd love a splash hire though

Maybe Brad can visit with Young and learn how to spot guys that can shoot from downtown. Brownell being a good defense/poor shooter as a player seems to look for clones of himself (other than Reed).
The main point is that Brownell ain't going anywhere this year. DRad will have no choice to move on next year after what will likely be at or near the bottom of the ACC finish. Our roster next year will feature a bevy of suspect mid-major talent playing in the talent laden ACC (yikes). 2 trips to the NCAA in 10 years is not enough to keep his job at that point (one trip with his players).

able to spot under the radar guys. We aren't going to recruit with the blue bloods, so we have to find guys overlooked in recruiting circles. Our best teams and players have by and large featured under the radar guys. Nance, Grant, Campbell, Davis, Buckner, Boogie, Hammond, Booker, KJ. None of those guys were highly recruited, yet are among the best players ever here. Reed though a transfer was this type.
