Mar 23, 2019, 3:34 PM

Mar 23, 2019, 3:54 PM

UNC-GREENSBORO just got murdered in the NIT by Lipscomb. So hes not a good coach

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They held UK to 28 in the first half...

Mar 23, 2019, 3:53 PM

Wofford must spend a LOT OF $$$ on basketball!!!

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s a lot easier to recruit at Wofford

Mar 23, 2019, 3:54 PM

Spartanburg is where the ballers wanna be. And all that $$$ they have to spend on hoops...

So you sit on your couch drinking beer and watching basketball. When you see an underdog team playing well you start posting on t-net that CU should hire said coach without any clue of the coaches history or overall record. Very nice as you should fit right in

Re: Why not Woffords coach? !

Mar 23, 2019, 5:03 PM

In one short word, yes to all of the above

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure he's just putting it out there.

Mar 23, 2019, 5:04 PM [ in reply to Re: Why not Woffords coach? ! ]

Since Wofford's coach has his team playing in the NCAA Tournament and not the prestigious NIT.
Not to mention a better record. Garsh darnnit!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If only we got to play 20 quad 3 and 4 teams this year.***

Clemson bball always finds a way and we would have lost to wofford or furman

Mar 23, 2019, 5:11 PM [ in reply to Re: Why not Woffords coach? ! ]

Wofford has spent another $3M on basketball this year that kid might have been able to hit 2-3 more three pointers and Wofford would be heading to the 16.

Re: Why not Woffords coach? !

Mar 23, 2019, 5:13 PM

Wofford's coach has been there since when Shyatt was our coach.

He turned in about 5 straight losing seasons, 2 seasons at .500 overall. Then took till year 8 to win anything.

He has been up/down (but competitive since 2010). Still, he has 8 losing seasons in 17 years. A few of those recent.

Young is likely a Wofford coach for life. In reality, they could have canned him a few times for sub .500 outings. We are complaining about a guy going 9-9 and 20 wins after a sweet 16 bid as a failure but Youn g has turned a second round season to a 15-17 season the next.

Good coach, not an ACC level coach.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just wait, there will soon be Clemson “fans” defending him.

Mar 23, 2019, 5:17 PM

And probably criticizing our coach in the process.

Re: Just wait, there will soon be Clemson “fans” defending him.

Mar 23, 2019, 5:22 PM

Hard to compete with Kentucky when Woffords A.D. has denied every request Coach Young has made to level the playing field with UK. He lobbied to have the student body increased from 1600 to 26000 and was denied

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

And 6 of those l8sing seasons were during

Mar 23, 2019, 5:28 PM [ in reply to Re: Why not Woffords coach? ! ]

Wofford's transition from D II to D 1. The guy is a heck of a coach. Whether he'd ever come here is another topic, he was interviewed when BB was hired

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That’s the problem with Clemson hiring mid-major coaches

Mar 23, 2019, 5:33 PM

Success on that level is not predictive of success in major college basketball, and certainly not at Clemson.

Proverbs 16:18

It is. But if you're going to hire one

Mar 23, 2019, 5:39 PM

it might as well be one who knows the state and area like the back of his hand for recruiting contacts who has won at a high level at a place no one else had before. Heck, he had enough sense to be one of the 3 schools to offer Morant.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not store I follow. In Football Wofford has not been D2

Mar 23, 2019, 6:10 PM [ in reply to And 6 of those l8sing seasons were during ]

For at least 25 years.1-AA has always just been a football designation and meant Basketball was D1

Re: First year in SoCon was '97-98***

Mar 23, 2019, 6:53 PM

He did not lead them in the transition and the first tourney was in 2010. Actually a LOT of programs transitioned to NAIA or from DII from about mid 1980s to mid 90s. (again, the rise of the mid majors).

Mike Young is a sub .500 coach in the SoCon. GOod, great fit for Wofford, not Clemson.

To be a clemson coach, you have to be a top 30 coach just to finish middle pack

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's had 9 straight winning conference records

Mar 23, 2019, 9:21 PM

You do know as a low major you play a bunch of sacrificial lamb games to bring money in to the program dont you? And he plays big time OOC opponents. At 4 tourney teams this year plus SC, where they won by 20.

Even got home games from NC this year and SC last year

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Been there forever as assistant & coach.Loves it

Mar 23, 2019, 5:15 PM

There. Not going to leave. Plus BB wull be here next year

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Sounds a little like Larranaga

Mar 23, 2019, 5:31 PM

if/when there is an opening I'm pretty sure we'd seek to speak with him. You never know when a guy might want to test himself against the best

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Took him 17 years to get there at Wofford! No one would be

Mar 23, 2019, 5:16 PM

willing to give him that much time here.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

He's 55 and hasn't even been that good at Wofford

Mar 23, 2019, 5:42 PM

Why would we want him? If we get rid of Brad we can do better.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

5 NCAA's and conference championships

Mar 23, 2019, 5:47 PM

in a one bid league in the last 10 years isnt any good? And that st a school with no basketball tradition?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whenever we hire our next coach, it needs to be someone

Mar 23, 2019, 10:02 PM

who has been a successful head coach in a power conference and knows what it takes to run a program at that level.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Proverbs 16:18

And I've been saying that for weeks and you know that

Mar 23, 2019, 10:09 PM

But if we're unwilling to pony up that kind of cash, which is our history, a guy like Young would be worth the gamble IMO. If he came here he'd be a lifer, he wouldn't jump to another job, he'd view us as his last job. He has 20+ years of local recruiting relationships, something you know Brad really struggled to develop in his early years. And the guy can coach. He's proven that. He knows how to build a sustainable program.

I'd love a splash hire though

Re: Why not Woffords coach? !

Mar 24, 2019, 7:58 AM

Maybe Brad can visit with Young and learn how to spot guys that can shoot from downtown. Brownell being a good defense/poor shooter as a player seems to look for clones of himself (other than Reed).

The main point is that Brownell ain't going anywhere this year. DRad will have no choice to move on next year after what will likely be at or near the bottom of the ACC finish. Our roster next year will feature a bevy of suspect mid-major talent playing in the talent laden ACC (yikes). 2 trips to the NCAA in 10 years is not enough to keep his job at that point (one trip with his players).

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Whoever the coach is at Clemson has to be

Mar 24, 2019, 8:13 AM

able to spot under the radar guys. We aren't going to recruit with the blue bloods, so we have to find guys overlooked in recruiting circles. Our best teams and players have by and large featured under the radar guys. Nance, Grant, Campbell, Davis, Buckner, Boogie, Hammond, Booker, KJ. None of those guys were highly recruited, yet are among the best players ever here. Reed though a transfer was this type.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I hear that TL Hanna has a good Men's BB Coach. Just sayin.***

• Put up goal posts
What does a Gamecock grad call a Clemson Tiger grad in 2 years?
• Boss

if that team with that coach played in the ACC, they would..

Mar 24, 2019, 12:32 PM

not be in the tournament either. Apples and oranges.
