Some teams use elements of the spread. The main reason they do not use it extensively is because you would get you LT QB killed and would go thru 8-10 QB's in a season. Way too much speed and physicality in the NFL.

There aren't as many personnel mismatches in the NFL

and there aren't as many true reads in the run game. There simply isn't time and the players are too talented to leave one unblocked to read. You can't hold a block long enough with those Dlinemen.

The players are too fast for a horizontal passing game. The only way to get yards is to go vertical.

They would confuse us when they talk about a "pro style offense" if they ran the spread in the pros.

JK - couldn't resist. :)

Lol at all the gurus. All nice theories.!

Guess no one saw Atlanta play yesterday where they went 5 wide(with two rbs as WR's) and ate Denver up.

You all do realize if you go 5 wide that leaves 5 olinemen going against 3 to 4 dline men.

All you have to do is get rid of the ball quick. Teams utilize it definetly, it's just not ALL they run.

See. Atlanta, Green Bay, New England

Zone read. The Spread offense can and has been effectively used in the NFL for many years. It creates matchup problems for the defense which is why it's successful. Zone read isn't used very often bc it's not very effective, unless the goal is to get you star QB killed (Carolina Panthers)
