What are fair expectations for CU BB?

Jan 24, 2020, 2:29 PM

I'm thinking making a regional would be a good year, hosting a really good year, making a super?...well let's not get too crazy.

Winning the NIT would be nice.

The expectations for Clemson baseball should be every year to make a super regional, and a trip to Omaha every third year . Making the field of 64 should be a given, we didn’t fire Jack Legget to regress. Unfortunately outside of winning the ACC, that’s exactly what we’ve done

I understand your desires, but that is well above what our expectations should be.

Expectation should be regional every season as a 1 or 2 seed.

Similar to Dabo's approach, what happens once we get to the postseason is dependent on a lot of different things.

We should however expect to be able to convert our annual regional invite into a super regional much more than we currently are.

The way college baseball has been lately, there are about 4 teams in the supers every season and the other twelve rotate.

Clemson has been historically good, but we are not and should not expect to be top 5 in the country in consistency.

Again, this is not excusing getting bounced from a regional every season, but to believe that we should expect to be in a super regional at the end of every season, much less Omaha every 3 years, is completely ridiculous expectations.

If you are sticking with that, then you can go ahead and plan to be disappointed in every coach Clemson hires from now until you stop following the program.

Yeah you’re right, just like basketball, we should lower our expectations based on recent results.

Do you even realize that we went to the college World Series in 1991, 95, 96, 2000, 02, 06, 2010??, or is that too long ago for you to remember ??? I think expecting a few more appearances over the next 10 years is not unreasonable

No, Monte apologists don’t know that because they had to force it out of their brains to justify firing Leggett.

Our last trip to Omaha was a decade ago.

Jan 24, 2020, 3:22 PM [ in reply to Re: What are fair expectations for CU BB? ]

Since then:

-We haven't been to a super regional.
-We have won 2 division titles.
-We have won 1 ACC Tournament championship.
-We have finished the season ranked in the top 20 twice.

Bottom line: we aren't nationally relevant in baseball.

This isn't to say that we shouldn't strive to become one of the top 10-15 college baseball programs again, because I believe we can. We obviously have a proud baseball history. But the notion that we should expect to be in a super regional every year, and make it to Omaha every third year, is laughable at this point based on the last decade of Clemson baseball.

We have zero scholarship disadvantage against Vanderbilt or any other D1 team. This is complete fake news and cry baby nonsense.
