the detractors are either punishing Clemson (and only Clemson) for a close win and/or they don't think the team would be performing nearly as well if the competition in the ACC was a little more challenging.

last three or four years? Maybe there was one or two Top 25 schools like Miami, Syracuse and BC but so what. It wasn't like we had some killer conference schools that challenged us. The ACC may be down but they still wouldn't give us much of a fight if they were up. Recent history proves that.

the 2017 schedule was loaded, the 2016 was very good

the 2018 was even better than this year. I think A&M was better last year and BC and State were pretty good teams. This is by far the worst schedule we have had in the playoff run... but it's not our fault and we've been ripping the other teams as we should. We played against some highly rated QBs that made their teams better over the past 5 years- not so much this year. Transition year for most teams at QB. Newman is probably the best qb we'll face in the regular season and they are banged up and overall don't have the depth or personnel that some of the others we've faced in the past.

Correct. And the thing is: the ACC is on pace to have a bunch of teams with winning records! Which means "to me at least" not the SEC-lovers slash-so called Clemson posters on here - That the conference is far more scrutinized than it deserves!
IF you were saying - you can't even beat group of 5 teams then okay. But, just this weekend the SEC lost two to g5 schools. Nothing said! Because everyone thinks about the top of that conference only! Mistake!

Whats so perplexing is that everything that they are saying about Clemson this year was said about them last year before we stomped both teams we played in the playoffs. You'd think that might make the naysayers change their tune, but no. Its a real mystery isn't it?
