He'd probably peel some of that off to buy better lineman and keep him from getting smacked around like a bad date.

as the salary cap will limit the actual talent they bring in or retain in Kansas City. After about 3 years of paying him, they'll be losing good players wanting raises, and bringing in scrubs for cheap around him.

DW4 could ultimately be in a better position in a couple years. Be a better situation if O'Brian would be fired.

Mahomes' deal isn't really that bad for the team

The truly crazy money doesn't start happening until 2026-27, and by then both the cap and average QB salary will have increased to a point that will make Mahomes' contract more reasonable. Also Deshaun and Dak are almost assuredly both going to be making more annually over the next three or four years, so I'd say KC did ok locking up the best QB in the NFL.

Great article on ESPN about why it's a win-win type deal.
