Why do you think its bad? His snaps will only get shorter next year..and he has a lot of film out.

if he gets drafted at all it would be on the last day.

Dec 13, 2017, 5:08 PM

If he came back he could improve to at least a mid-rounder.

Why would his stock go up?

Dec 13, 2017, 7:18 PM

I'm not saying he should or shouldn't leave, but is there any evidence to suggest he will suddenly be a mid-round pick next year?

I do not see his stock going up anymore if he stays or leaves. He might get drafted in the late rounds either way he goes.

The author said people close to the program expect a mass exodus of underclassmen..

Smith are the ones being pulled to leave early so far.

he's probably not getting any advice to leave

Dec 13, 2017, 5:38 PM

his personal situation is probably pushing him to potentially make this decision... he knows that he is a late round - UDFA prospect without a combine invite right now...

I don’t personally know his finances, however his father is a high school coach. That’s not big time money, but i’m sure he isn’t in want of anything either.

Maybe he's that guy that wants to earn his own

Dec 14, 2017, 3:43 AM

And get off his pop's payroll because Van's personal situation has nothing to do with his dad... Maybe Van is weighing the risk of an additional year of college versus how much he can improve his draft stock... He very well could be taking a very mature look at it all... Too often, these 'reports' begin as message board fake news...

The only way I'd cosign would be if he's a graduate

Dec 13, 2017, 5:54 PM

I don't fault any player for entering the draft early no matter where they think they'll be selected if they've graduated. However, unless there's a special family circumstance, if you aren't a graduate, you probably would need to know that you'll be drafted in the 1st or 2nd rd for it to be a good decision to leave.

I think yes...but I was wrong on Breeland !

Dec 14, 2017, 8:30 AM

I would guess that you study how many players are coming out at your given position. Few safeties in the draft(unlike last year) would raise his stock.
