Transportation from parking

Sep 17, 2020, 11:51 AM

Just found out from IPTAY office that there will be no transportation from the parking lots to the stadium this year.

Not sure who (Clemson or IPTAY) supplies the transportation,

but if it's IPTAY, I'm not surprised. They'll probably be doing a lot cost-cutting moves for the next several years. Along with the University, too. Crazy times we are in.

Thanks for the heads up!

I'm guessing along with cost-cutting, throwing a group of strangers on a small bus is not exactly 2020 game day protocol.

I would reach out again to the IPYAY office. My understanding is that a separate parking area is available for any ticket holder needing assistance.

Transpo ain't cheap. With covid, it became ungodly expensive. Operations costs have easily doubled in some cases and capacity is 1/2 the best of times.

My guess it was costing about $120-$140 per hour bus per vehicle - before any additional covid cleaning fees, etc. With capacity restrictions (say 50%), you are looking at a bus carrying 15-20 people MAX per trip (likely averaging less than 10). Assume that it would take 3-4 round trips per hour (less depending etc). A bus would service between 120-200 folks a day. They will need to charge about 9 service hours (3 hours before, 3 hours during and 3 hours after... normally the after is the shortist but we still charged when I was doing it). That would be $1260 @140/h. Thus the cost per person moved would be between $6-10 each - on a good day. It might be as high as $30 per person if folks didn't want to bus it in.

Keep in mind that those buses are only to make the distant parking useful. Those buses are normally cheaper than the cost of giant parking decks.

I’m pretty sure there are still buses to the handicap lot. It is the buses to the distant lots that were cut BUT I’m pretty sure nobody has been assigned to those lots anyway.
