Wayne Simmons, John Johnson, Doug Brewster, Jesse Hatcher can't be left off the list and Arthur Bussie would have been one of the all best had Danny never been ousted.

In place of who though? Hatcher was great but was a Jr.

Jun 13, 2018, 11:25 AM

College guy who was only there a couple of years, I think.

1st round pick. I'd have him in my top 10 no doubt

Randy Scott was pretty good.

Kirkland and Adams are 1a and 1b IMO... Everybody else is a distant 2nd.

Ashley Sheppard was a good one too.

I was gonna say Ashley Sheppard also,I was very fond of all those late 80's linebacker units.

Where does Johnny Rembert fit in ? He still holds the most career int's by a linebacker I think. Had a 10 yr career with the Pats - all pro bowler. Guess the only downside is he was a juco (I think)...

Good Post!!!

Nah, just a tough call not putting Jeff Davis as number 1... Actually not sure I can even rank them because they were all the Best of the Best!!!!! Just good people too. other teams through the years have had some really great players but you look at the Tigers through the years at all positions - They're just "Good People". Wow, we are fortunate to be Tiger fans.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg2016_pickem_champ.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Johnny Rembert & Jessie Hatcher = good as any we've had

Jun 13, 2018, 1:29 PM [ in reply to Re: Top 10 LBs at Clemson since 1970: ]

Both were JUCOs, but they gave us two full years, and I believe they probably played about as many snaps at starting LB as Stephone Anthony and some others.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Rembert was a good pro also at NE.***

There were several not mentioned---The Freak, Abdullugh, Chad Carson, Henry Walls, and many more----JD was the best with the Termite a step away.

Re: Top 10 LBs at Clemson since 1970:

If you go back to 1970 you have to mention Larry Hefner. He went on to play for the Packers at a time when few Clemson players went pro.

Re: Top 10 LBs at Clemson since 1970:

Also going back to the 70's you have to mention Jimmy Williamson as well. He was drafted by the Falcons but got hurt in training camp.

Re: Top 10 LBs at Clemson since 1970:

Jun 14, 2018, 7:55 AM

All great players and deserve to be on an expanded list. My all time favorite pairing were 1. Randy Scott and Bubba Brown. They were keys to the re-emergence of Tiger Football.
2. Jeff Davis and Danny Tripplett
3. Boulware, Anthony and Goodson (although probably a better unit in 2016)
4. Johnny Rembert and Ed McDaniel
