If Auburn loses to Ole Miss on Saturday, Gus Malzahn might lose his job during the following bye week. He may replace by DC Kevin Steele or OC Chip Lindsey as interim head coach. Even though he (Malzahn) has a contract that has at least 38 million dollars in buyout money.

I don't believe they will pay that amount. I think they will give him another year and then can him if he does not show improvement. Next year's buyout will still be large but it won't be 38 mill or whatever.

Gus makes $7M per year thru 2024. If they fire him they owe him 75% of the remaining contract.

$32m buyout this year
$26 buy out next year
$21 buy out year after.

Not getting a lot cheaper. They either pony up, Gus turns it around (doubtful based on his record) or Allburn sucks it up and puts up with him for a few more years.
