The key to Clemson's rise to excellence!

Everyone knows that Dabo is the main cog making everything work. His fire and passion for football and taking young men and helping to carve them into some of the best young men you could ever ask for. His recruiting is top notch and his eye for making the best moves in his coaching staff.
I noticed a huge turning point in this program. You can call it highly rated recruits coming in and attracting even more talent. That doesn't hurt.
It wasn't Chad Morris. It wasn't Spiller, Sammy, or Beasley. My pick as the main change that was so obvious was bringing in Brent Venables. I may be wrong, but I think we sedan to just do thud tackling in practice. We now have very hard hitting in practice. Our guys just seem so much more physical on both sides of the football.
Look back to Brent's first year at the difference defensively from the first game (Auburn) to the last game (LSU). During the Auburn game who would have thought we would play and beat LSU. What a night that was! I could feel it. I could see it.
What you gus think? When and where do you think things turned around? Was it Dabo, Venables, recruiting? Curious about other thoughts. Let me know because it is nut cutting time. LOL

Not only was it Venables coaching but also his recruiting! He is a DC that kids want to play for and put it all on the line for! He does a lot for this team and I'm really thankful to have him. He is a HUGE part of what is going on here at Clemson and I couldn't be more proud to have him as a part of the staff. Best coaching staff in the country!

CTB convincing the admin to give his top recruiter/WR coach a shot at the head coaching position . Who knows where we'd be without that gesture , without that we could've ended up languishing for a very long time . Dabo is the difference .

Dabo for sure....but they put the fire in our new guys also. look at Johnson & Rodgers, never suited up and recruiting like old hands. Younguns will listen to other younguns as much as adults!!

You are all correct

It was Dabo AND his ability and foresight to hire the best assistants that were available. Perhaps he isn't the very best coach in college football but he sure has assembled the best staff and that IS the difference

There are currently only a few in the running. I think this year will be culling (or as Venables puts it, "nut cuttin' time")....+1.

The only thing missing now is to focus on Special Teams play ( and recruiting kickers! ) while keeping the offense and defense playing like they are. Then, we would be almost unbeatable by anyone...not that we aren't close to that now.

I'd say the Special teams will no longer be the weakness of this team. Dabo, has fixed every aspect that hurt us in the past. When he took over we had a offense that wasn't very physical. Hired Chad and it started to improve. Then the Defense became weak and not so physical. Hires Brent and almost immediate results. Last year our offense and defense were probably the most physical in College Football. Everyone thought that Bama would man handle our O and D line. Well just the opposite happened. If not for special teams (Kick off coverage), we win the game. Even with the broken Defensive plays. Now that the Special teams has fallen, he has said he will fix it and I believe him. It's going to be a Great Season. Go Tigers

Brent was a key piece in the puzzle. After he came on board to solidify the defense it gave a tremendous boost to the program. Offense was already in place with Chad Morris. Now special teams need to be upgraded for Clemson to be elite. We all saw that in the Natty.
