The cut block and how to stop it
Sep 18, 2018, 1:57 PM

We all know GT uses the cut block to attack the legs of our D line. While not illegal, it is widely regarded as a tactic used by inferior linemen. I propose that any of our D line facing this block simply jump up, and drive their knees down with all of their weight into the ribs or back of the cutting lineman. That should immediately put an end to it.

Good way to get a Unsportsmanlike penalty.
The only reliable way to defeat a cut block is to fire out low and push the blocker to the ground - then step around or over him. In reality, it doesn't always work, because a good cut block can't be defeated.

Have the conference simply outlaw them as unsportsmanlike conduct. There are penalties for all types of play which are now illegal so this could be added to the list. CPJ would go crazy, but who cares what he thinks.

Great idea.
But what happens when you play an out of conference team?

I've watched Clemson's Defensive lineman, since Coach V has been here, push the defenders to the ground and step past them regularly making multiple tackles for loss. If it cant be defeated then why don't many other schools use it, seeing as it's legal? Grady was the best one to watch defeat the cut blocks. I seem to always be in the backfield disrupting the QB and Dive man's handoff.

veer many times. The only real way of defeating a cut block is to get your hands on them and push them into the ground before they get on your legs.

Correct.... one hand on the helmet and the other hand on the shoulder pads and push/jump. Otherwise, you're on the ground.

Good idea. Get Coach V on the phone... I'm sure your genius could be useful to him.

How is that an ejection? I fall on a lineman that took out my legs....that cannot be a penalty
