The Bridge Program's primary intent is to manipulate stats,

but I also think it serves a few other purposes.

It cuts down on Clemson hiring additional faculty for English 101, Bio 101, etc. Core classes that are meaningless.

Also cuts out the complete idiots who can't even adjust to college life enough to make a 2.5 at Tri County Tech.

I think it makes a LITTLE bit of sense to have the Bridge program. I certainly would encourage my child to do it if he/she wanted to go to Clemson.

It also allows them the use of Fike, the option to purchase football tickets, etc.

It's really not as bad as some are making it out to be.

Yeah purchase football tickets, just like you and I have the option to purchase tickets.

Well, if they purchase season tickets then they don't have to complain about an unfair distribution system while they're at the game.

Jus' sayin'.

There's nothing bad about it - it's a great option for kids

that don't make it into Clemson, but still want to attend Clemson and be a part of the Clemson experience. Having said that, Clemson is not for everybody, and The Bridge Program is not for everybody. And that's okay.

I agree, the bridge program is a good thing.

A couple of my ex-roomates did the bridge program and graduated from Clemson with no problems.

I transferred in because I didn't have my head screwed on straight in high school so I spent a year and half at a lower level 4 year college before I made my way to Clemson.

In other words, a lot of kids are plenty intelligent and capable of making the grade, but for whatever reason were knuckleheads in high school and never applied themselves.

Sounds reckless.

Additionally, I think it helps manipulate retention

X number of normal students drop out after freshman year. Those numbers are backfilled with bridge enrollees. Keeps the revenue stream alive, and makes for a great retention rate.

It also serves as replacements for the straight in students that fluke out after a year. So CU does not lose enrollment $
