Not a gambler, so could someone explain to me what 5/4 odds mean for say a $1000 bet?

5/4 means you’d be paid $1250 on a $1000 bet (plus get your original $1000 back)

2/1 odds mean double
3/1 mean triple
Etc

So 5/4 means you’ll be paid $5 for every $4 you bet

5/4 odds on a $1,000 dollar bet will win you your money back + $800. So it’s not quite as good as getting even money which is represented as 1/1. Another way of looking at it is the sports books are giving the Tigers an 80% chance of making the playoffs.

5/4 is definitely not worse than 1/1 odds

It is when you are the one making the bet. I live in Nevada. When I make bets I’d rather have the opportunity to double my money rather than win less than I bet. The lower the odds the better!!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you might live in Vegas but I have a bit of a gambling

Jun 19, 2018, 10:20 PM

Problem so i know that if I bet $1000 on a 5/4 bet that cashes I will get more money paid out than a 1/1 bet. $2250 vs $2000.

What you describe is 4/5

Jun 19, 2018, 6:47 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Latest National Championship odds for Clemson ]

5/4 gives 1250

Actually, that’s what you’re describing.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

5/4 means you get 5 dollars for every 4 dollars bet

Jun 19, 2018, 8:12 PM [ in reply to Re: TNET: Latest National Championship odds for Clemson ]

2/1 means you get 2 dollars for every dollar bet 10/1 means...

5/4 on a thousand dollar bet pays 1250, so when you cash your ticket in you collect 2250 which is your 1000 back plus the 1250 you won

Never mind I’m completely wrong

Getting Plus money on that is a pretty good deal

Essentially the same bet as us winning the ACC so you could shop those to see which one has the better payout. You know, IF anyone was thinking of wagering.

Eh an ACC championship bet omits the A&M & SCar games***

Jun 19, 2018, 10:22 PM

But the chances are that if we win the ACC we'll make the playoff so if you bet us making the playoff you're essentially betting that we win the league while also opening the possibility that 2 ACC teams making it in as we don't win in Charlotte

of the 22 teams listed (& usuck isn't), there are

6 SEC teams listed-----and a grand total of ONE is from the SEC Least----even Vegas recognizes that division as the worst in the Power 5

Got mine at the Wynn in April at 7:1...also went in on Texans while I was at it. Go Tigers!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

7:1 to make the playoff? Or win it all?***

Jun 19, 2018, 8:48 PM

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

7:1 would be title odds for sure

Jun 20, 2018, 8:38 AM

According to this we are 5:4 to make the playoff which is nearly 50/50.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My advice to ALL of you...

Jun 20, 2018, 10:28 PM

Borrow every penny you can get your hands on and lay the odds that Bama will make the playoff. Because it doesn't matter if they lose, the committee would NEVER leave them out.

yet they are only a 1 point difference than the coots in Death Valley. Yet, the coots say THEY are loaded. LOADED.
