Spurrier is going for the "family bond" approach

Says everybody on his team has to "like each other" a little bit more.

Says his players were surprised when he showed up at 6 o'clock one morning to watch them practice, when he told them "if I'm in town" I will be here.

Says they lost most of their recruits because other teams are saying he's too old.

In other words:

His luxury golf vacations aren't winning him games.
His academically worst (Gamecocks have lowest gpa in the nation)performing athletes aren't close knit enough.
His "I'm outta here when I feel like it" attitude isn't helping.

And now he wants to be more like Dabo and put in the work and be more like a family.

Isn't he one of the people who used to make fun of Dabo as being a cheerleader and CEO. Sounds like he wants to be like him now.

Selfish old Spurturd. It will only end in ruin for his program and a lifelong golf trip for himself.

I'm going to keep banging this drum, because it really is morally despicable.

This is the kind of “family” that eats their own brothers.

At the end of the season Coots had a full slate of 85 scholarships.
16 seniors, 1 early graduate, and 1 junior (to the NFL), come off the roster = 67 scholarships left on the team.

The Coots then accept 27 commitments (so far) from naive HS players, which is a total of 94 scholarships for 2015. This means at least 9 players now won’t have their commitment honored, or current team members will be given the ax to get the scholarship total back to 85.

Since the 2009 season, the Coots have run off 43 scholarship players (none were seniors, early graduates, or NFL entrants)

SOME FAMILY…huh????

Note: data source is from SC's Rivals scholarship list.

Spurrier is jumping at anything to change the course of his recruits. The ship is sinking and he knows it.

Exactly, he's just putting on a front trying to do some damage control to save this recruiting class. He was prob told by Tanner he better get off his tail and do something to fix his goof up cause he isn't gonna leave suc football in this shape before he leaves. They see the writing on the wall, back to the dumps like before spurlid got there.

This is beginning to sound like Lou's and TB's final years. None of the things he advocated were used in Steve's three year 11 wins run and will have any effect on the outcome in the upcoming season. I have no doubt Slurrier still wants to win but this is to show the fans he's still working hard and give them hope even though we know his twilight season results are looking grim and his best years are far behind him.
