Sources: Vic Koenning joining Mark Hudspeth’s staff

Vic Koenning is expected to join Mark Hudspeth’s staff at Gulf Shores (Ala.) High School, sources told FootballScoop on Sunday. Koennig will be the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator, pending final approval.
Koenning has been in coaching for 35 years, most notably as Wyoming’s head coach and the defensive coordinator at six institutions, including Clemson, Illinois and West Virginia. Koenning deposited two stints as Troy’s defensive coordinator, most recently in from 2015-18.
He spent one season in charge of West Virginia’s defense before stepping away in July amid allegations of player mistreatment.
“I remain apologetic to anyone who perceived something I said or did as hurtful. That was never my intent,” Koenning said at the time. “I wish to thank all the current and former players, coaches and colleagues — of all different ethnicities and backgrounds — whose support and encouragement have been invaluable to me and my family.
“I am relieved the process is over but will be forever changed by the experience. Personally, I’d love to get back to coaching our guys, but I know that doing so would create additional scrutiny and lingering distractions for our program. Taking all this into consideration, we have come to this mutual decision to separate.”
Koenning joins a staff that has to stand as the most overqualified in high school football. Hudspeth owns 106 career victories at the college level, and offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield spent two decades at the college level. He was South Alabama’s offensive coordinator from 2018-20 and spent eight seasons running Troy’s offense prior to that.
Gulf Shores went 2-8 in 2020, according to MaxPreps

Thankful Vic gets to coach. Worked pretty closely with him, he was grumpy and just kind of introverted, but he helped solve some issues players were having. I found his heart in right place, cared about kids and helped a ton. Out of all coaches who’ve come through Clemson and gotten sideways or been a flop after leaving, he is the one I know who will have learned and changed. Good for him.

they were very young, and the tickets were given to me, so I thought it would be fun to be near the team.
LOL - Koenning cursed the whole time, I was glad there was a lot of crowd noise, but his mouth was vile.
Learned my lesson and never took those tickets again.
Seats sucked for the view, and this was when we still had the huge crest in the field, I don't think you could see the other team iirc.
