I guess the only reason is that they beat us in the most recent meeting,but we beat them too.

the league goes to the records against the top team in the league standings.

Clemson and State both lost to UVA, so you go to the 2nd place team.

State beat Duke while Clemson didn't thus State owns the tiebreaker.

Id prefer the soccer model of total score between both games. Buuuuuut of course the NCAA won't acknowledge anything like that that could potentially encourage running up the score because they are a bunch of sissies, so we know that will never happen.
