SC could not have had an easier SEC schedule this season

Nov 20, 2017, 3:56 PM

I'm sure this has been posted, but even though it seems USC has somehow turned what seemed to be a horrendous start to the season around to what many would consider a successful season, I don't think it could have gotten any easier this season for them...

Other than Georgia, the SEC East was pretty weak this season, with their four wins coming against the bottom four of the SEC East, and two of them being against big name programs that had all but given up on their coach and the season. Both coaches were fired, showing how bad the programs were. Their wins were against 3-4 Missouri, 3-5 Florida, 0-7 Tennessee, and 0-7 Vandy.

The two teams they played from the SEC West were in the bottom three, with their win coming against the bottom dwelling 1-6 Arkansas.

In other words, their 5 wins in the mighty SEC were against teams with a combined 7-29 conference record.

The NC State game comparisons and them not getting blown out by Georgia, along with our lackluster performance against Syracuse still give me reason to feel this won't be anything like last year's game, especially if luck is not on our side. Hopefully the defense being healthy and Bryant being back to form will give us the opportunity to quiet the crowd early and have a big lead by halftime.

The only problem with the weak SEC schedule and the pseudo-confidence it has instilled in the fan base , is that it won't be as easy as it looked early in the season to flip a lot of season ticket holder seats over to orange and neutralize the home field advantage. Hope to still see a lot of orange in the stadium Saturday night, though.

It goes even deeper than that.

Missouri is 3-4 in the SEC, but their 3 wins have come over Florida, Tennessee, and Vandy. Missouri also has a loss out of conference of 35-3 against a 5-6 Purdue team.

Florida is 3-5, but 2 of their wins are also over Tennessee and Vandy.

Arkansas has 1 SEC win over 2-5 Ole Miss. That's an Arkansas team that lost 28-7 to TCU, and beat 2-9 Coastal Carolina 39-38.

Even their losses other than Georgia, they lost to Kentucky who is 4-4 in the SEC and 7-4 overall. Kentucky in further proving how pathetic the SEC East is, went 0-2 to the SEC West including a 45-7 loss to Miss State, and a loss against the previously mentioned 5-6 Ole Miss team. Also look at what Kentucky has done out of conference this season. They are 3-0, but to get there they beat a 7-4 Southern Miss team 24-17, Eastern Kentucky 27-16 in a game which Kentucky trailed at halftime, and only led 17-16 entering the 4th, and 24-20 over a 4-7 Eastern Michigan team.

That's not even counting the 17-16 win they had over La Tech where South Carolina had to kick a FG at the end of the game to win it. I really don't understand why so many people feel they are so vastly improved this season. They replaced a loss last season to Miss State with a horrible Arkansas team this season, and they replaced a loss to a 9-4 Florida team last season with a win over a 4-6 Florida team playing with their 3rd string QB. If they played Miss State again instead of Arkansas, and if Florida was anything close to last season South Carolina would be sitting at 6-5 heading into our game just as they were last year.

I read about it today

Even the bottom dwellers are still SEC and that much better than any other bottom dwellers

Oh it was more than pretty weak. Worst division in CFB

Nov 20, 2017, 7:57 PM

1 SEC-WEST (A) = 82.24 82.51 ( 1) 7 82.31 ( 1)
2 ACC-ATLANTIC (A) = 80.06 80.39 ( 2) 7 80.15 ( 2)
3 BIG TEN-EAST (A) = 79.56 79.37 ( 3) 7 79.44 ( 3)
4 PAC-12(NORTH) (A) = 78.52 77.37 ( 4) 6 78.29 ( 4)
5 BIG 12 (A) = 78.27 76.92 ( 5) 10 78.04 ( 5)
6 BIG TEN-WEST (A) = 76.30 76.13 ( 7) 7 76.24 ( 7)
7 ACC-COASTAL (A) = 75.98 76.91 ( 6) 7 76.55 ( 6)
8 PAC-12(SOUTH) (A) = 75.45 76.09 ( 8) 6 75.88 ( 8)
9 SEC-EAST (A) = 72.72 73.58 ( 9) 7 73.01 ( 9)

And it wasn't even particularly close. In addition to that, they played the worst team in the SEC West and an OK, but not great, A&M team. The ONLY way they could've played a worse schedule would've been Ole Miss instead of A&M.

Oh and we played in the 2nd best division in CFB

Nov 20, 2017, 8:00 PM

and, including the ACCCG, will play the top 3 teams from the Coastal. Not to mention Auburn, the 2nd best team in the SEC.
