Tigernet's Lead Candidates were Muschamp and Kiffin

Oct 12, 2017, 10:02 AM

We dodged two bullets.

I heard Mike Leach's name mention during Dabo's first...

Make it idjit proof and someone will make a better idjit.

Nah...

Brian Kelly, Mike Leach and Gary Patterson were TigerNet's top candidates.

Rumor has it that the University actually offered Patterson the job but the two sides were unable to come to terms on the annual salary.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

I was a huge Patterson fan. He would've been successful

Oct 12, 2017, 10:18 AM

here. Maybe not as successful but our standards were just beating Wake at that point.

Patterson was my choice as well...

Oct 12, 2017, 1:32 PM [ in reply to Nah... ]

and if Dabo decided to move on, he would be my choice once again.

I also liked Troy Calhoun at the time.

I think most schools that "got it right" on the head coaching hire can tell these types of stories. Kind of like iconic movies almost using a different lead actor or whatever like Back to the Future and Indiana Jones. I do recall some sentiment for Muschamp at the time. Actually, a former Tiger player who I will leave nameless told me Muschamp was his first choice and thought Dabo was an "emotional hire." I'll say Dabo's very first presser after getting the interim tag applied post Wake in 2008 had me hooked. This is where the "All In" slogan was born and he said things that day I'd been waiting for years to hear from a Clemson coach. It certainly was refreshing to hear his laying down clear expectations for winning at Clemson as opposed to the constant equivocations we had been getting out of Bowden e.g. "half the teams in America lose every week; Maryland gives scholarships too; etc."

I still remember game day was at Texas back then and a Texas fan had a sign that said "Sorry Clemson, Muschamp bleeds burnt orange". It looks like he's bled a lot of different colors since then, lol...but thank God he didn't bleed tiger Orange. My how he's fallen

I can only assume some wanted Muschamp because of his angry countenance .
