anybody could put the 2009 class in the top 50. Not to belittle the players we actually got, but that was too small a class with too few big impact players to be rated that highly.

Well, at the time the players in that class were highly touted and, thus, the class was highly ranked. Sometimes these players don't pan out. Some of the ones in this 2013 class won't pan out. That's just the way it is. Still, at the time, it was a good class according to the prognosticators.

Not only is it obvious in hindsight, but it was fairly obvious at the time that there were far too few numbers compared to our needs and most of these guys were not going to be impact players.

I am not arguing the validity of the rankings. Right or wrong, that's what they ranked Clemson at the time. Personally, I am glad they did. Having a streak like this looks good and puts Clemson in some good company.

sound like this just happened. Going back further, our 2008 class was ranked #2 by ESPN, 2007 class #18, and 2006 class #13. That's as far back as I could find on the ESPN site, but pretty sure Bowden had some good classes before that. So it's more like a 10 year Top 15-20 recruiting mainstay.
