It's part of a larger scheme, concocted by a-holes, to screw with public opinion. Tiggity's Newsweek article explained it pretty well.

The hope is to elicit reactions like yours, and to throw you into conflict with overreacting liberal snowflakes. And thereby recruit reasonable people to an unreasonable cause.
