TDP forgot..."We are glad to see his high salary go and we will now save money with the new hire."

A horrible day in Clemson history and we won't find a better coach and program builder than Purnell.

We lost a fine coach, but the sentence that bothers me is...

Apr 6, 2010, 12:40 PM

"We will BEGIN the search for a new coach immediately." In situations like this don't we have some idea that the coach is looking or has been approached by another school before it is announced? Or is this just the proper rhetoric on behalf of the AD?

Rhetoric..

Apr 6, 2010, 12:44 PM

Don't ever take public statements literally from a GM, AD, etc.. They obviously have been exploring options earlier

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Could not "officially" start a search until their was

an opening. He had a list put together when OP was contacted

call bobby cremins TDP!!!

Good IMO. 0-6 lifetime in the NCAA tourney pretty much

Apr 6, 2010, 2:14 PM

says it all. I'll take Cliff Ellis & an ACC regular season, not to mention a sweet 16 appearance all day over what Purnell has accomplished the last 8 years. Bounced in the 1st round for 3 years in a row doens't add up to anything.

Also, I felt that Oliver is inconsistent in terms of player development. Was Trevor Booker really any better his sr year vs his soph year? KC Rivers? David Potter? I could keep going. He did do a good job w/ Hammonds though.....

Good luck DePaul, you'll make it to the NCAA tourney, but you'll never do anything meaningful with Purnell as your head coach.

This is a blessing in disquise. Purnell coached like a ref at a inner-city street ball game. He underachieved with a load of talent and was out coached much of his time at Clemson.

So whats next? If Clemson wanted to make a statement then they need to actively pursue Brad Stevens from Butler. He would fit perfectly with the trend towards younger coaches at Clemson that Dabo started.

Look to the Future and hire Stevens !
