I plan to bring a lawsuit against Notre Dame. That cartoony man offends me and misrepresents what I look like and my character.

When the federal government sanctions genocide against the Irish. Breaks every treaty they ever sign, and then allows you to live on the crappiest land they can find, and then when they find stuff they want on that land, moves you even crappier land. Then you might have a case. doesn't bring us any closer to right and wrong. The federal government should stay out of people being offended.
It's arbitrary to select a certain group of people as especially pathetic who deserve to be treated like children, because of something that happened to people they never met. That seems more offensive to me.

Technology and population made a few recent examples more fatal (#-wise), but the word slave comes from slav, Christians were tortured by Romans, Romans were tortured by Germans, Germans were ethnically cleansed by Romans, Scandinavians raped children, it goes on and on and on. It's arbitrary to pick and choose which ones we should still feel awkward about.
The lesson should be about human nature... not "this group of people is special because their ancestors suffered in the last 300 years.
