O-Line. Lettuce discuss.

Jul 2, 2015, 7:42 PM

A repost that 8 people read:

We have more than enough pieces in place to field a very capable 2-deep.

LT: 1. Hyatt (290lbs now, to the guy who says FR aren't strong or big enough til they reach their 20's) #2 OT E300
2. Morris 6'4" 295 #67 OT
3. Falc 6'3" 305 #27 OT
4. McClain 6'4" 305 #30 OT
4. Jones 6'5" 320

LG:
1. Norton 6'3" 285
2. Hearn 6'4" 325
3. Giella 6'5" 275

C:
1. Guillermo BIG and PROVEN #1 OC
2. Norton #11 OC

RG:
1. Crowder 6'2" 330 #5 OG (will make many DL "quit" wanting to shoot through his gap before the start of their 2nd Q vs us). Freak. Mauler. #ScaresMe&Idon'tHaveToLineupAcrossHim
Tweet that.

2. Hearn #35 OG ("Most Improved and Ready to Contribute" - Clemson coaches)
3. Green 6'5" 275 #11 OT E300
4. Giella #31 OT

RT:
1a. Fruh 6'5" 285 #7 OT E300
1a. Gore 6'5" 290 #52 OT
3. Falc/Morris #27/#60 OTs

Battle is 6'7" 290 and came in as the #59 OT

*** Cannon Smith #22 OT (247)
Rod Byers could switch back to OL where he will also scare opponents (see shatley).

Lowest ranked player out of H.S. in those listed above? Battle.

Sky is not falling. Hard work and healthy competition from these guys will allow us plenty of opportunity to showcase an upper echelon OL in the ACC, and above average front nationally. Still may prove to be the best (from strings 1-3) we've seen since Dabo took the reigns.

We're okay, guys.

Would love to still have Battle. Very athletic and very experienced... and seemed to play his best/give the most effort vs our toughest opponents. Also caused what should've been big plays to fail.

Anybody remember Hyatt throwing around Robert Nkemdiche (the #1 senior recruit in the country at the time) around like a rag doll? How about him holding his vs potential All-American, Lawson, in the spring game?

Hoping he has enough fire and belief in himself to understand that he's still the guy that embarrassed the best DE and PLAYER in the country.

Bust your ###, Hyatt. Your role just tripled.

Also, plz take the 15 yards instead of 15 games without #4.

ACT LIKE THE PRO'S AND PROTECT YOUR FRANCHISE QB BY TACKLING, RIPPING THE JERSEY OFF OF, TRIPPING OR FACE-MASKING WHOEVER BEATS YOU ON A PLAY IN '15.

I can agree with that. My assumptions are that TE and JS do a lot of mix-match and scheming with TE and jumbo sets for max protect since our run game will be proven. Plus DW4 is best against pressure. Our RB's are very capable receivers out of the backfield, and with Williams, Scott and Peake out wide defenses can't afford to play man on them...they will pay for that. Plus DW4 will be a great game manager and very capable to audible. I like our chances there, and our defense will still keep us in games nonetheless.

Well said, I agree***

I still want to see a TE who will block.

Blocking's definitely a good thing for a TE - particularly on the strong side..... but....

I want to see one who will block, catch the ball on the out/dump route, runs the fly, cross, slant, look-in, curl, post, corner fade and above all can/will go get the ball. Oh yeah - and when he catches it in the seam, puts his shoulder down, throws a forearm shiver and looks like a FB busting through a D, galloping toward the end-zone with DBs bouncing off of him like rubber balls.

That's what I want to see...... Now that's football!

Good post......

Jul 3, 2015, 12:23 PM

That said, isn't Fal actually a C/OG?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Good post......

Jul 3, 2015, 12:46 PM

Not sure about Falc but I goofed on McClain. Looks like if the season started tomorrow Mclain would start at LG.

HYATT MCCLAIN NORTON CROWDER GORE

I hope Guillermo starts at center over Norton within a couple games.

Very Good, but

Jul 3, 2015, 1:05 PM

Mac Lain is a guard and Jones is basically gone.

Re: Very Good, but

Jul 3, 2015, 1:20 PM

Yeah, Oliver Jones would need to put a lot of work in this summer dieting and training to have a chance to make an impact.

2nd Team Guess:

Fruh/McClain Norton Guillermo Hearn Fruh

3rd:
Morris Green/Byers Guillermo/Norton/Giella Falc/Byers Morris/Jones

Wonder if Cannon Smith gets moved to tackle now?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Very Good, but

Jul 3, 2015, 3:19 PM

What is the deal with Oliver Jones? This guy has been in the program for over three years and he has not produced anything. I hear that he has been injured, but what player remains injured that long. This should be his last year if he cannot perform. We cannot afford to waste scholarships in this manner.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

any concerns at center? Is Guillermo dependable, sure

Jul 3, 2015, 1:51 PM

He will stick around?

Pretty sure he's laser focused now.

Also, latest I'm hearing is that Falc has been putting work in at Center, too.

Expect to see Giella and Riggs get snaps there beyond Jay and Falc.

And Norton is proven. The most experienced OL on our team. And most if his snaps came from C.

If Norton starts we are in trouble . He can't block to save his life

Re: any concerns at center? Is Guillermo dependable, sure

Jul 4, 2015, 10:36 AM

If he does start, ut means he busted his rump un the weightroom this summer to shield off the starving (more than capable) ones nipping at his heels.

He projects better at guard anyways. Pulls well.

That's why having Guillermo is Ginormous.

Losing Battle I'm okay with so long as we get Guillermo back and keep him.

Even steven now as compared to right after signing day projecting the success of the OL without Jay.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably not what you want to hear

Jul 3, 2015, 4:00 PM

BUT...
hoping and praying and wishing; Isn't going make this a top notch O-line.
Now,
like you, there is some reason for optimism. But for now, I still have some
concern. As do a lot of other people.
I like Hyatt, no doubt he will be a great OL...."1 day". I expect he will get
a lot of TE help to start with on his side.

MacLain, as far as I am concerned...Unproven, and still trying to adjust.
I like center, especially now that Gullimaro is back.
As well as right Guard, I think we'll be fine here too.

Back to tackle...right tackle...I have concerns here; even with Gore and the
freshman.

So sure, it's a wait and see mode here...least 4 me.

Re: Probably not what you want to hear

Gore has all the tools to be great. Just been battlung injuries since his arrival. If he can stay healthy, we have a solid OL.

Been hearing good things about the progression of Hearn, Falc & Morris.

With all having a legit shot at earning significant PT this year, I believe it will motivate the heck out of all 3 to battle it out against each other in the weight room and every other regard in terms of their development leading up to summer camp.
