Need a rule change for big dance

You must finish in your conference .500 or better to be considered for an at large bid. This would leave all the talk about teams like tcu, indiana, texas, and others getting a bid. Tired of all the talk about having a strong non conference record or they beat 1 or 2 good teams. If you can't at least win half of your conference games you shouldn't be playing for a national championship. I guess this would lead to more mid majors getting in.

Or simply cut the NCAA tournament field to 48 and let the other teams play in the NIT. This would eliminate the early games that have teams with exactly zero chance of winning the tournament. It would also make the NIT relevant again.

48 is too few. Only 19% of D1 teams get in
