National Anthem

I'm so thankful that our women and men's BB teams didn't do anything stupid and disrespectful like sitting during the National Anthem - like the Gamecock women did. I know there are a lot of upset Gamecock fans now, per comments I've read.

Politics and social discussions are typically deleted as they are highly unproductive and combative. Only occasionally do we allow an off-topic thread on politics, religion or social issues, but even then, it is usually locked as no one will change their opinion or remain civil.

I’m not going to sit here on Thanksgiving and police a thread on WBB National Anthem protests. I have family to see and food to eat. There are better things to do than sit on here insulting and arguing with each other over something you have no control over.

Just go enjoy some Thanksgiving food and have a good day with family and friends. As u can see they have already pulled it .This message was from their staff and will not allow further comments. WOW they always post and comment on what DABO says. And sorry gamecocks do have a say so with their wallets. Gamecock central must be a socialist website!!!

The irony

Of young women sitting who are on scholarship to get an education that can help improve their lives does not go unnoticed. I don't think they know what true racism and injustice looks like. Maybe they should protest Dawn Staley's huge contract. That seems unfair too.

I stopped watching NFL Football when Colin started the stink. I also stopped buying Nike products when they took the Betsy Ross Flag off the shoes at Colin's insistence.

Can’t believe they are against police brutality and racism. We pay them enough to look the other way.

You’re the one that looks stupid making comments like that. America is the best country in the world. Black people are only rich because of America. You don’t see black people leaving America do you? If America so bad why don’t rich black people leave?

America is not a racist country. America was not founded on racism. There is no such thing as systemic racism. Are they racist people? Yes. Guess what? Many of them are black!

Police brutality? Over the last 10 years on average about 1000 people are killed by the police. Roughly 300 of those are black. 99.99999% of those are killed while committing a crime or resisting arrest.

I can post dozens of videos by white & Black academics and progressives and well respected thought leaders on the left and in academia explaining why you are factually incorrect and why the whole foundation of this nonsense is incorrect.

10% of any profession is made up of bad people. You don’t condemn an entire profession because of isolated incidents that are sensationalized by the media for political purposes. And if you’re a Clemson graduate can you believe this nonsense I’m embarrassed for you! I’m embarrassed that you let emotions fear lies propaganda cloud your rational mind!

I dare you to name one innocent person that was killed by a cop for no other reason then racism. Name one black person in this country in the last 10 years killed by police officers because of racism.

I find a lot of truth in your post but you need to be cool because
your hatred will take you out. Let people be people, it's supposed
to be a free country and there are a lot of opinions and they are
like a$$holes, you know, just like you lowcountry.

when they make speeches making George Floyd out to be a hero and say nothing about BLM burning down buildings and harassing people, I have no respect for them. If they wanted to help African Americans they would not support BLM and instead ask that group where their millions of dollars are going. ---and it is not back to their communities.

Why disrespect the anthem (and what it stands for) because

some people are bad? Everybody is against racism and police brutality - kneeling for the anthem is misplaced, misguided protest. It enlightens nobody and changes nobody's mind. It's just self-serving nonsense on every level.

I personally don’t kneel during the national anthem, or agree with most of what the kneelers’ aims are politically; however, I’m certainly not going to complain about a grown man deciding to kneel in peaceful protest/trying to make a political statement during an anthem. I thought this was America, land of the free. Not some hypernationalistic “kneel or get out” land.
For conservatives to call liberals snowflakes all the time, they sure have their own things they like to get all butt hurt over.

It's not a matter of liberal or conservative - it's a matter of respect for our flag and anthem.

If you can have this respect, you're a loser!

The individuals who choose to kneel, rock back and forth, stare at their feet, etc. have every right to do so. I support the need for true dialogue on race. That covers some tough topics not just for whites, but blacks as well. I’m not sure these actions during the National Anthem are very effective forms of persuasion. Provocative yes, persuasive- not at all sure of that.

Respect for the anthem and flag? Let me ask you something, what’s the reason to respect the anthem and flag? The answer is we respect the anthem and flag because they are SYMBOLS of freedom. Freedoms like freedom of speech, protest, and a variety of others.

So what you are telling me, is you think it’s more important to respect a SYMBOL of freedom, than the actual freedoms represented by that flag and anthem? That makes no sense.

While I’m no fan of the choice to kneel during the anthem, I’m also not all triggered by it. Nationalism can be taken to far. It’s fine to be proud of your country, but the whole beauty of our country is that we have a right to criticize it so we can try to make things better. Do I actual think BLM movement will make things better? Not me, personally. But I am not going to be mad about someone expressing their views and using their freedoms.
