It's one of the most volatile careers around, and most jobs last 5-6 years and then you're off to somewhere else. Why not live modestly as you move around from job to job, save up, then retire and buy a palace? Oliver Purnell just had to unload his mansion at a loss when he was canned at Depaul.
Sure, you can get a nice house, but 10,000 sq ft on an island in Lake Murray for a job that odds are will last less than 6 years.....
Live in a regular house and if you win a NC at Carolina THEN buy this place.

He's been grossly overpaid everywhere he's been. His agent must be a magician. 1.85 million is well within his price range. And Murray Island wouldn't be a bad place to retire once schools finally figure out that he sucks. He can keep the house once he tries at another school and retire there eventually.

Generally some type of housing allowance is included in their compensation package.
When you figure in their buyout and any capital gains losses from the home to offset some of it they're not losing nearly as much as you probably think they are.
Plus their salaries are so large these days they're probably just willing to take losses for their enjoyment. A coach like muschamp is never going to have to worry about finances like a normal person would.

use that head of your for something besides a doorstop or cracking walnuts.
Reports were surfacing back in late November and early December that Muschamp would not be returning to Auburn.
He wasn't leaving by choice. Malzahn didn't want him back.
I realize it hurts your feelings and is a tough pill to swallow that $CU had to settle for sloppy seconds but, the fact of the matter is, if he hadn't taken another job, he would have been fired.
Ask anyone familiar with Auburn football.

Says the house has a "Florida room". He could put all the accolades from his short stint as the Gators coach in there. I hope it is a small room though, wouldn't want it to look as barren as the Coots trophy case.

engage in foolish and excessive adulation of their head coaches, I'm doubting that CussChamp get the same pass as the Old Ball Sack.
Don't get me wrong, they will still make excuses for him and try to rationalize and justify every ignorant move he makes (that's just what Coots do), but I doubting they'll be as patient as they were with Spurrier.
If after four years he's only averaging 6 or 7 wins pre season and has lost four straight to Clemson (extending Clemson's winning streak to 6 in a row), they'll be ready to run him out of town on a rail.

That House has been on and off the market many times. It is not much of an island more like a slither of land with 15ft bridge. I will give him some credit he is as far from the OBC as he could and still live in the Columbia area. That house was for sale 10 years ago and it was offered at 850,000 but I am not sure if they sold it then or not. It does have a lot of boat traffic in the summer, that was a concern when I looked at it. They probably told him that it is real quite, and it is Nov-March but during the summer and fall it is a busy point. The redneck dirtpecker fans will stop by and tell him how to recruit and coach, should not have never told the public about the purchase.

Good for him and his family. Looks like an awesome place to live. I'd be happy in a house like the guest house on lake Murray. That is an awesome bass fishing lake. Striper too.
