Should scholarships be increased to recruit say 5 more players a year in anticipation of portal jumpers each year? As a staff tries to balance their recruiting to their roster space, portal jumpers can really wreak havoc at certain position groups. The NCAA really scr ewed the pooch when they even entertained the thought of granting immediate eligibility to any one that entered the portal and now that the barn door has been opened there is no closing it. It amazes me that so many that enter the portal soon come to realize that they have no where to go and yet more keep doing it!
My initial thought is no. If you are nailing the recruits you think are great, you don't need the transfer portal, unless you have players transfer out, thus leaving you with available scholarships. I mean isn't it the Coaches job to manage that?
