These guys talk and act like they didn't have to get ready for a team like Wofford. They must never watch or listen to what the smaller schools do to the D1 schools. They play harder just to knock them off that high horse the D1 schools think they are riding on. We were very lucky to get past Wofford on Saturday with an ugly win. And I do hope our guys learned a valueble lesson. Get ready, or get beat, just that simple....

Looking ahead to Awburn? I hope so but fear not.

Why don't we tackle in practice? Do other schools just thud

Sep 12, 2011, 7:21 PM

as well...seems as if not tackling in practice could explain a lot of the missed tackles and lack of toughness

Exactly. Practice should be full contact all the time.

What could possibly happen? It's not like people get hurt playing football. I think we really are soft.

Think about the level of hits these guys lay in a gameday

atmosphere. These guys masochistically destroy themselves day in & day out on a regular basis practicing, tackling, weight lifting, & conditioning.

Point being, if they tackled in every practice, it would be like shooting themselves in the foot. They would be too bruised and banged up before they ever met their opponent.

Everyone is running around saying 'soft" this week... but everyone said the same thing last year, and we were the toughest team Auburn faced according to their own players.

Our weakness will more likely be softness from inexperience.

Good post Wolfman. Most don't understand the brutality of the game and the punishment that goes on. These guys give so much of themselves. The licks at practice are there, and they are very real, but it's okay by me if they don't take our RB's or WR's or our QB's to the ground.

Thompson said it all.....work before and after practice.

The reason we used to be tough is because of the amount of practice. If you think the top notch teams don't go over practice limits, you are wrong IMHO. At the very least I bet they are working on their own for extra hours and hours. Our players will have to go above and beyond in conditioning and practicing themselves......because the coaches will not require anything beyond the limits of the NCAA rules....and that should be the company line coming from the coaches. But what is to stop the coaches from suggesting some routines that the players may want to do.....that is if they have some free time.

What are the rules regarding practice time, currently?
What were the rules under Danny Ford?
(since we all like to refer back to that time)
and how does that compare with
the time when Danny was under Bear Bryant?
Some historical perspective would be helpful, especially since we can't compare current apples to oranges of that time. Is there someone that actually played during that time, that could give first hand accounts?
Thanks!!!

I think he is fired up about this game and ready to wash away the bad memories from a year ago.
