Lyn-J Dixon Redshirt Speculation

Aug 14, 2018, 12:33 PM

I saw some speculation on another thread that Lyn-J might redshirt this year.

What does this have to do with the QB battle?

Nothing. Nothing at all. Proceed.

I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.

There's a lot more flexibility with redshirts this year

so he could potentially play a decent amount and still redshirt.

But there's really no point in redshirting a player unless the coaches are fairly certain he's going to stay 5 years and there's also no reason for a talented RB to stay 5 years (barring injury problems). RBs need to get to the NFL as quickly as possible while they are still young and don't have so much wear and tear on their bodies. Careers are very short at that position.

I suspect Dabo was taking that into account

when he responded.

A lot of redshirts do so for academic reasons as well as

athletic reasons.

He was never going to redshirt.

We have only three backs ahead of him and one is gone after this year and possibly two. I doubt the staff wants to go into next year with only 1 back with any meaningful game experience.

I never thought he would.

Particularly after CJ Fuller decided to leave. However, I did see speculation on the T-Net boreds that he would.

Me neither, but I did see the speculation. It just doesn't make much sense these days given the level of talent we are recruiting. They're just too talented to stay here 5 years. Running backs have a very limited shelf life and they don't typically get drafted in the first round, so they may as well go pro as soon as they can.

I don't think he's treated as a red shirt entering the season

at seasons end he very well could be though. If everyone stays healthy, where are his snaps? The new red shirt rule allows him to get PT in blowouts, or if someone is nicked up.
