LSU 2019 = Auburn 2010

Magical season with a one and done transcendent QB. They will quickly fade back to mediocrity with no sustainability.

Hats off to them for being the better team that night, but I much prefer what Dabo has built.

I would agree. Perfect analogy.

I didn't post much prior to this year's Natty mostly because I didn't think Clemson had a tremendous chance against LSU - they were, sorry, just insanely loaded at WR and had a QB who looked like a fleet-footed Tom Brady and was hitting about 80% of his passes - and, quite frankly, Tony Elliott is just so-so as a playcaller though in years past he's saved some wrinkles for the playoffs. Especially in the Big Easy, it was going to be anything but easy. (On another note, we've gotta develop some sophistication in our passing game, especially in the middle of the field, because teams are noticeably starting to get a bead on what we do offensively, but I digress.)

That being said, a lot of things just sort of fell together for LSU and they caught serious lightning in a bottle in a way we just haven't seen since Cam Newton and Auburn, maybe even more so.

And lightning in a bottle isn't a program, and while you look at the way OSU, Oklahoma, and especially Alabama have recruited at QB and you figure they can probably reload, there's very little in the pipe there for LSU. Take away Burrow and all those skill guys and LSU looks like an 8-4 (or worse!) team again.

Thank you! You are probably one of the few on here that could have said this and not been ribbed for it.

I think Tony Elliot is a weak link on our coaching staff and there's a reason why he hasn't been pursued heavily for a head coaching role. As much as I like Tony as a Clemson Man, I think the book has been written on him and he just doesn't have a good feeling for the game.

this LSU team to 2010 Auburn. Burrow had WAY more talent around him than Scam Newton did. I detest Newton, but he was the heart and soul of that team, and literally carried them on his back to a National Championship.

I wouldn't just look at it by saying it was the QB. Their issue is that 1) yes, they lose Burrow, but 2) they lose Joe Brady as well...3) they lose Aranda, their DC...and 4) they lose many key players that are NOT named Joe Burrow. If they kept the coaching consistency, they may be able to stand a better chance, but with that also in play, it's unlikely they'll repeat going through Bama again, nor the exact dominance of this past season against their other competition (including the SEC-CG). They still could become a top 10-15 team, but to stay top 5 this next year, unlikely. Bama rarely ever stays down long anymore.

I’m not sure if serious about the Auburn comparisons. LSU made trips to the NCG for the 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2019 seasons and won 3 of them. All with different coaches by the way, which proves that MANY people can win at LSU. Auburn to date, on the other hand, has been a 4 or 5 loss team every year except for 3 seasons (including the Cam season) since the BCS started. To compare LSU to Auburn is just silly.

Re: Bama. If by “anymore” you mean the last 11 years they don’t stay down long, you’re correct. But Saban’s almost 70 and Bama is on their way out. You could see the beginning of the end in the championship last year when Bama got demolished by an inferior Clemson team. Bama is done. I don’t know if you are old enough to remember from 1993-2008 Bama was terrible. LSU stayed relevant with Les Miles—LSU isn’t going anywhere. In fact, may be the next Bama... so much money and in state talent, not to mention LSU has a coach that loves the program more than anything and not Les Miles.. Bama will stay relevant as long as they have a genius coach (days are numbered). Speaking of, where is Dabo from again?

Clemson, on the other hand, will stay relevant as long as the entire ACC sucks.

I’m not an LSU fan. LSU probably loses 2 games next year. In the SEC that’s pretty good, granted it’s awful in the ACC. I just said I don’t understand that “one and done” nonsense or the Auburn comparisons. The only program in the country to have more championships than LSU (3) since the BCS era is Alabama (5), and one of those was a mulligan against LSU. LSU’s been in the national discussion most years since 2002... on the other hand, as a casual college football fan I didn’t even know Clemson had a team until the implementation of the CFP.

I saw an interview with Saban that said the reason he went to LSU was that it had more NFL talent per capital than anywhere else, and no in-state rival to compete for recruits with. Orgeron is building a fence around Louisiana... so I don’t think LSU is going anywhere. Clemson, on the other hand, better hope that the ACC stays terrible. These last few seasons have been good for Clemson... but let’s see if Clemson can keep staying relevant for as long as LSU has.

Dude, you are clueless. How many times has LSU

beaten Bama by 28 points? I’m old enough to remember LSU having SEVEN losing seasons in the 1990’s. It took Saban to make LSU relevant again. Going into the game last week, LSU and Clemson both had 3 National Titles, but LSU’s last was 13 years ago. Clemson had won two of the last three CFP Titles.

You guys are copy cats and have no shame. Your “Deaf Valley” does not compare to our “Death Valley”. We play each other in a home and home in s few years. You will have a different opinion of our “Death Valley”. if you are brave enough to show up.

Bama got demolished by an “inferior Clemson team”

Put down the pipe. LSU would not have beaten last year’s Clemson team. Our defensive line would’ve made life miserable for Burrow and Mullen would not have allowed Chase to have the type of night he had. Get over yourself. LSU will not sniff the playoff or the SEC championship next year. Good night

Not an LSU fan, but LSU would’ve destroyed Clemson last year. Saban was underprepared and burnt out after a very long and successful career in the SEC. If LSU beats Bama and Auburn next year, LSU will 100% be in the SEC championship game.

2) You said "as long as the entire ACC sucks"?? Well news flash...Clemson was doing it in 2016 when the ACC was...uh oh...the BEST CONFERENCE IN THE NCAA. Imagine if Clemson played a team like Bama every year, or even an Auburn or Texas A&M...I wonder how "dominant" would they be? The only two teams that required Clemson to get up for a game this year, thoroughly dominated Clemson. Yeah your team is great, but do realize the quality of competition matters. As long as they play in the ACC Clemson will never have a dynasty.

I don't think that they will be back next year, but I do think that they will be back. They are willing to spend the money and are recruiting at an elite level. That puts them at a level ahead of everybody not named Clemson or Alabama.

https://youtu.be/347yNaK638w

Their DBs shut down Trevor, the first to hold him under 50% passing completion. Next year will be another great year for the DBU Tigers having snatched #1 S/D corner Elias Ricks from Dabo and Nick Saban

Trevor will have an entire new OL.

Had it been a close game, I might see your point. But it wasn’t. LSU closed out the game 35-8 and routed us ... Plain and simple!

Myles Brennan is Joe Burrow’s replacement. Myles Brennan played 3 years in HS throwing for over 15,000 yards shattering all of Brett Favre’s records ... Trevor played 4 years and threw for 13,750 as a comparison.

We’ve been humbled by what was likely the best team ever on offense. To arrogantly take this team for granted in 2020 invites another whipping. I am certain our coaches do not mirror your uninformed opinions. Personally, I am hoping Alabama beats them and we don’t see them again until the home and Home series in 2025 and 2026, but that’s unlikely.
Anyone who really watched LSU at Alabama knows what the LSU Defense will likely do to Mac Jones in LSU Stadium this year. The LSU Texas game will be a good early gauge of LSU

Brennan is one of those rare gunslingers that can toss a 70 yard ball ... Burrow has a 50-55 yard arm. And that Guy Chase (Biletnikoff) is returning with a loaded WR corps and Arik Gilbert, a super freak TE we missed out on.

Mark it: If LSU gets past Texas and Florida, they play Bama for the SEC West and will be right back here with Clemson and OSU ... MAC Jones is not a QB that can handle any defensive pressure and we would kill Bama if they make it to the Playoffs

I agree totally. That game was not close. It wouldn’t be wise to underestimate LSU and I doubt Clemson’s coaching staff is doing so, they probably know that this is the golden age of Clemson football and may be short lived due to the nature of the ACC. Good recruiting class, once in a life time quarterback, weak in-conference competition, Dabo’s prayers to God, etc—all that stuff only works for so long. The real test of an elite program is staying in the discussion for longer than a few seasons and in different scenarios. LSU has more than passed that test, let’s see if Clemson can do the same.

You're both spouting nonsense. Most of us...and apparently, many kids today, don't give a moment's thought to what a program did ten years...or more...ago. It's the past couple of years and the here...and...the...now. Laying Clemson's relevance at the feet of the ACC is about as disrespectful to Clemson, as Tiger fans would be in not acknowledging how good LSU was...THIS...YEAR. But...THIS...YEAR...has come and gone. LSU won't look like THIS...YEAR...next year. Clemson...will continue what it has done CONSISTENTLY for the past decade....and especially 2015...16...17...18...19...perhaps you get the drift...but, I'm skeptical.

Clemson fans, for some reason, think that the last 5 years defines a program. LSU, Bama, all the rest of the legit non-ACC schools have standards of excellence instilled by a winning culture that can only be nurtured by overcoming ups and downs and winning consecutively at the highest level for more than just the 2 or 3 seasons surrounding a national championship. This little 2-2 run is Clemson’s first taste of success, so it’s understandable that you think you’re a world power now.

Again, LSU had SEVEN losing seasons in the 1990’s.

The ONLY thing that pulled them out of that hole was Saban. Since Saban left, it took 13 years to win a title.

I can’t wait for the home and home with LSU in a few years. Be a man, show up at the real Death Valley, assuming you can afford the ticket.

@Davegriffin7791 You're a ranting, raging, loon. Over a team you claim to not support. Which is most likely true since you seem to think they've been relevant for "decades". Go back to your hole. Come back when you got something of significance. :)

Today's high school ballers had to go back to diapers to remember worthy LSU teams. And Fournette and team was a one-trick pony good for 1.5 yards per carry vs. Bama.

Brady and Burrow brought rain to the dust of Death Valley II. Now gone with Aranda.

Brennan has a live arm, sure. But unless he takes a quantum step forward like Burrow did - which has only been accomplished, by the way, by Joe Burrow himself - then it's going to be a major downgrade.

Despite his high school numbers, Brennan was just a low-end 4-star because of questions about his mobility and his accuracy...and he's also a rising junior who in his first three years has completed all of 42 of 70 passes (right at 60%) for 620 yards and 2 TD's...against 3 INT's, and that came almost entirely in garbage time.

It's not like he was killing games off with his feet, either. He has all of 3 rushes listed on his ESPN stats sheet. For fifteen yards.

So anybody who thinks Brennan will just slot right in and take up where Burrow left off is being kind of a...homer, sorry. There is a reason LSU was in the market for a transfer QB when Joe Burrow arrived, and it probably wasn't because LSU was sold on Brennan, who was already a year in at the time.

I hope LSU makes it to the CFP.

Agree and disagree. 2020 LSU team was much better than Auburn championship team from a personnel, coaching, level of competition and margin of victory perspective. But concur with transcendent QB - an upgraded just as cocky but more mature version.

LSU will take a hit in 2020, but like DW4's impact, I look for this year's LSU QB and team to be a catalyst for future LSU recruits. Of course QB and coaching are big unknowns for LSU moving forward. They will not equal Brady, Aranda or Burrow in the next decade if ever. Of course, give me Clemson's team in 2020 and overall program.

As for the top of the SEC (at present), it just is better like the ads state. Bama, Auburn, Florida and Dawgs will compete again in 2020 with LSU and others pulling upsets. Less Clemson, Ohio St and a handful of others, there are few teams nationwide with roster depth at all 24 positions like the SEC.

I hope you are right, BUT...
247 recruiting rankings 2015-2020:
Clemson - 1, 10, 7, 16, 11, 9. Ave = 9
LSU - 5, 5, 15, 7, 2, 5. Ave = 6.5

If recruiting is the lifeblood, then their blood is a good as ours. However, it is obvious that our coaches recognize talent better than 247 or they know how to coach them up. If coach O's staff can do that, they will be back.

And we are just like OSU fans on here.***
