Just saw where Belk got his 5th star from 247

however Rivals has him as a 5.7 3-star. Anyone able to explain the huge difference? This is one of the more drastic differences I have seen with one recruit.

Rivals = camps, Shrine = Clemson

Rivals rated him lower because of not attending their camps and announcing on their site. He didn't get a Shrine Bowl invite because of being a "Carolina lean" and going to Clemson. None of this is my own info, just what I remember from what others have said, so take it with a grade of slaw.

With stars and ratings at this point. I live close to his home town and saw him play a couple of times and he was incredible. But needless to say I'm no expert lol. I am not sure how they get these ratings but if Venables likes him I'm on board regardless. Still like I said it's a very good question.

significant jump in those like he did today in 247's. The reason for Josh's lower rating was because of the small HS/lack of competition. He proved Army All-American week he could dominate the best. I believe he is not only a 5 star with 247 now but the #1 DT in the country. If Rivals was paying attention also, you'll probably see a significant bump coming there also.

He got rave reviews at the AAA bowl practices. There are videos of him absolutely abusing Jamaree Salyer and in an interview Salyer said Belk was the best person he went up against.

Can't look at the offers either because a player could have gotten offered years prior and maybe he didn't progress the way many thought. Or maybe the the potential as a 10th grader wasn't realized as a junior or senior. Maybe the kid didn't fill out physically the way schools thought. Just because one was offered doesn't mean one was recruited by. A lot of reasons why schools offer and a lot of reasons why schools quit recruiting a kid. The Belk thing and him maybe not getting a Shrine Bowl invite may have to do with the same politics as Kendrick not being in the running for Mr. Football in South Carolina even though Kendrick was everyone like Gatorade's Player of the Year in South Carolina.
