When interference was called against BC in the end zone before we fumbled at the goal line, why did they not put the ball on the 2 yard line? What did I miss? Thanks.
You only place it at the 2 if the penalty yardage (the 15 yards) would’ve put the ball in the endzone. In other words the normal penalty for PI is spot of the foul or 15 yards whichever is shorter. Normally that would mean when a team is inside the 15 then the penalty would be, by rule, to place the ball half the distance. So, an exception to the rule was put into place in order to strengthen the penalty for PI when a team is in the red zone. This the exception is that if the team snaps the ball from the 17 or closer and the PI occurs inside the 2 or in the endzone then the ball is placed at the 2.
