I'm hoping Special teams can get better

Oct 24, 2020, 4:51 PM

We've had a lot of blocked kicks this year. Overall, we don't seem to make plays there.

Dabo is the best. On that we can agree. And Special Teams is an area where Coach Swinney has very consciously decided not to compete. Clemson has not competed on Special Teams in many years. With the ACC level of competition and Clemson's dominance on the Offensive and Defensive side of the ball, there is no point. Coach Swinney sees Special Teams as an opportunity to make more mistakes than big plays so he removes them from the game with fair catches on punts, kickoffs through the end zone, minimal kickoff runbacks, etc. The Tiger coaching staff seems to ignore special teams.

But Clemson has shown susceptibility to blocked kicks. And while poor Clemson special teams play does not matter in the ACC, Saban and Ryan Day are watching, and it will matter in the playoffs. Your move Coach Swinney.
