If Clemson seriously wants to be an ACC power in

Feb 9, 2013, 11:31 AM

basketball, then look no further than Eddie Biedenbach (Coaches at UNC Asheville). Yes, he's 67-years-old, but he's got another 3 or 4 years in him. If not, watch Asheville become the next Gonzaga with one of the lowest budgets in basketball !

We just need to pony up and throw everything weve got at shaka smart. Its time we start throwing money at the big time guys instead of going the cheap routes

I don't think Smart leaves VCU anytime soon. He makes

Feb 9, 2013, 11:46 AM

1.2 million a year (same as Brownell) and doesn't have to deal with the likes of Duke, N.C. State, UNC, etc. He's got it made at VCU. Needless to say, I agree.

the lure of a big conference is always appealing to a competitor, I agree but if 1.2 isnt enough then we must raise the bar. My line of thinking is we need to make the big three all competitive ala what UF is doing.

Eddie Biedenbach, or whomever.....

Feb 9, 2013, 11:45 AM

Any coach would struggle just the same with 2 wildly inconsistent seniors, zero juniors, and the rest of the team being a bunch of still growing freshmen and sophomores, including the loss of 2 injured players who were expected to be key contributors to the program.

Those are the facts.

Some of you guys need a large injection of common sense. As much as you may not want to hear it - PATIENCE is needed. Not a new coach.

Re: What do y'all think of Bruce Pearl?

Feb 9, 2013, 11:55 AM [ in reply to Eddie Biedenbach, or whomever..... ]

I know he has a "show cause penalty" attached to him, but he was a strong coach at Tenn. He can recruit, runs a fun style of basketball and he has an infectious personality. We need someone who can sell the program to recruits, fans and donors. Due to his past transgression we could probably get him for about what we pay Brownell. I'm not saying to fire Brownell, but if it eventually comes to that what's ya'lls opinion on Pearl?

Just when you think you have read it all.

consider him.

I've heard this same kind of comment 1000 time over.....

Feb 9, 2013, 12:13 PM

the years that "only if we do this" or "only if we do that" we'll be an ACC basketball power.

It's going to take a major philosophy and financial commitment which Clemson has never wanted to make.

It can also be said with historical accuracy that the better our most-important program (football) is doing the worse our basketball program seems to be.

The hiring of D Rad was step one

Feb 9, 2013, 2:17 PM

Seriously,if Clemson wants to be an ACC power,I would suggest they get some of John Wooden's DNA and clone him.
Makes about as much sense as your suggesting we hire a coach with only three or 4 years left in him!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I was slightly joking, but the point is Biedenbach will have

Feb 9, 2013, 2:45 PM

Asheville going to their 3rd straight NCAA tourney appearance and he works w/ a budget of just over 1 million (He can flat out coach). I agree Clemson needs to throw money at a Shaka Smart, Mark Few, Brad Stevens, etc.

Also, I think uptempo transition basketball wins, at least at the collegiate level NOT Brownell's 1960's short shorts style.

Agree, Except for the occasional cool move by McDaniel, we are as exciting as drying cement.

We bought out Tommy, let's buy out Brad and move on.

How does little $1.2 million dollar budget Asheville have a better basketball team than a $4.6 million dollar Clemson who plays in the ACC? Hmmm oh yeah, COACHING
