I need some help re Gamecocks.

I don't know what the acceptable thing to call them on this forum is.

I know USC is not appropriate. I know SC is frowned upon as well. I know there are a couple of other names that might be considered PG-13. I'm trying to figure out what I can type.

On my Nole message baord I handled the problem with our rivalry by refusing to capital their name. I always type "gators" or "uf." I've done it so long that when I post here I have to remember to type "Florida" because y'all aren't familiar with "uf" and might not know what I was talking about.

So, what should I call them (G rated if possible) to show you how much respect I have for Clemson. Would "usc" or "sc" be appropriate? I could type "gamecocks" but typing 9 letters seems like too big an effort for such a little school.

UofSC is the name they adopted when Southern Cal beat them for USC***

Personally I like USuC because it sums up that whole university up in one phrase.

They used to be abbreviated on TV as ' Univ of Sou Car'. LOL, I don't know why, but that always made me chuckle.

Similar to you uf or gators, uofsc follows the same line of just not being able to show them respect by using capital letters.

Thanks. I'll probably adopt coots as my name of choice.

FYI, back when FSU was really good (back in the 90s) I used to refer to our rivals as "our little sisters to the south." (They used to refer to us as "that girls school up north" since FSU was originally a women's college. My dad was a member of the first co-ed graduating class. They went co-ed, as a lot of schools did, right after WWII when GIs were going to school on the GI bill.)

was "he" a co-ed when he graduated or did that change come

A VERY long time ago, I called them Lamecocks, may have been

[2]
Posted: Dec 3, 2020, 5:09 PM

the first to do so.

But, COOTS is so much easier to say and type. Also, appropriate. A real coot resembles, or can be mistaken from a distance for a duck. A Lamecock Coot FROM A DISTANCE could be mistaken for a football player. But, up close, once they move around, the difference is clear.

Hope this helps.

I often use SCAR, as they are often abbreviated on ESPN ticker as S.CAR.

If you google for

ESPN SCAR

the top result will be

I tend to call them SCar. It is an accepted scoreboard abbreviation & also calls to mind a nasty Disney villain.

since the real "usc" is in california, the real "carolina"

[2]

is in chapel hill nc, and the real "university of south carolina" is in clemson we just call them the "coots" it's fitting since a real coot is a useless bird that can't fly.

Back in the day, ESPN use to shorten their name as “SCar” on the corner-of-screen scoreboard.

So I call them scar sometimes (never capitalize). And they HATE the scar abbreviation.

Call them coots or dirtpeckers or birdbrains. We knows whats you means.
