I just cruised by the Louisville athletic facilities on i-65

Apr 17, 2019, 8:40 PM

Everything looks brand-spanking-new and it's all the same scheme, red brick etc All I can say is it looks really really good. it's an eye catcher from the highway. after the KFC Yum Center up by the Ohio River there's a gap and then you start with the softball field, tennis courts, track and field area, then down to the football stadium I don't pull for other ACC programs but it would be nice of Louisville to help bring the status of ACC sports up so we might get a little more respect. They certainly have the money to do it.

Louisville has some Money, BUT ......

One of their largest Donors (John Schnatter) ie., Papa John is no longer Giving $ due to being forced out of his own Company. He gave Millions over the years. Also, they are paying off Petrino and still dealing with the aftermath of Rick Pitino.

My nephew traveled there being in the drum line for NC State and he said the football stadium was a dump. I've seen it posted here as well so I don't know personally. I went to a game there in the 70s and I don't remember much lol. My nephew has traveled to every venue in the ACC fwiw

Only built in 1998 and it was just expanded. How can it be the bad?

Goodness - the biggest piece of crap stadium in the ACC is Carter-Finley and I have sat in nearly every section.

Louisville stadium and campus are nice for a City School. I usually stay near the stadium and run the campus on Sunday's after the game.

LOL AGREE WITH THAT. CATER FINLEY BLOWS. IT IS BETTER THAN IT USED TO BE BUT STILL BLOWS. BEEN TO LEWISVILLE TWICE. STADIUM IN AN INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT BUT ALL THEIR FACILITIES ARE VERY NICE. KINDA TOUGH TO GET TO UPPER DECK. SORT OF LIKE UGA WITH ALL THE STEPS. THEY JUST REDID THEIR END ZONE SO I HAVENT SEEN IT YET.

Agree. There are High School stadiums nicer than Carter Finley. The field area is nice. But the stands and underneath are a pig sty.

The Athletic Dept know their base. Makes State fans feel like home. Passed out under the seats covered in filth.

Worst fans in the ACC...also, the dumbest. Terrible school.

They actually make me miss Maryland.

Actually, I think a lot of that development is funded on the backs of the local tax base. I remember that the University sold the city a gold-plated golden goose and the revenue has not matched the promises.

As for the rest of the University, they athletics and academics are an embarrassment. They need to at least spend some time and a lot of resources just raising the bar to NC States Level (an academic jump of about 80-90 spots). Otherwise, we should kick them back to the CUSA.

Lived there 1998-2012...

In that time, they went from a Conference USA team with John L. Smith as HC to a Big East Team with Petrino as HC, to a big dip with Kragthorpe, and bounced back with Charlie Strong. Strong ushered them into American Athletic Conference for one year prior to joining ACC with Petrino back at HC (you know that strange scenario).

It was a DUMP in 1998. Papa John's was built - new but not that big. They like football, but it doesn't feel like college football - more like minor league pro scene. After a Gator Bowl in 2005 and winning the Orange Bowl against Wake in 2006, they had money which they re-invested across the board in their athletic programs. I'd say Papa John's at 60K is as big as they need. Yum Center is awesome. The baseball field is nice. The whole campus is light years beyond what it was in 1998.

So, they have been through a lot of change. I still do not seen them as a fit for the ACC and I have an MBA from UofL. Maryland should never have left but that was their choice.

UofL's board has a tough row to hoe with State cutting back and various scandal sucking money and support.
