I am so glad I moved from California to TJ. I could not be happier now. Adios Pacific Athletic Conference.

I have friends who escaped Cuba when it fell. They see the same events playing over right now in America. They are in tears over America. Yes, literally weeping at what they see coming from the democrats.

I believe you're right. I think there are some sincere people in the BLM movement. I believe there are some idiots in the movement that don't have the best interests of everybody at heart. I believe those that would overthrow our government are using them. I think they could care less about the BLM movement. Peaceful protesters? Maybe there are some peaceful protesters, but everyone knows, when the sun goes down, the destruction begins. If you want to peacefully protest, get the heck out when the violence starts. You are only aiding the trouble makers by hanging around with peaceful protest.

You know, I was wondering; how would this rioting go down in Russia or China? I don't feel like the crap going on in Portland would have lasted as long as it has. The antifas casualty list would probably be a long one.

Aug 3, 2020, 9:20 AM [ in reply to Re: Max Alvarez who escaped Fidel Castro's Cuba in 1961 ]

My pastor said yesterday that socialism has never worked in any country where it was tried.

After the service, I corrected him (quietly and humbly, of course.) Socialism has always done exactly what it was intended to do: by eliminating the profit motive, you destroy any aspirations of excellence in performance, product or service; the value of precise and accurate data; the need for truth; the importance of accountability; and the rights of the individual. And as we all know, the wealth will not be evenly distributed, but the misery will be.

And the few who get to be in charge will be there for life--or until they get thrown into the inevitable gulag. But we will not be taking turns being the plantation owners. We will simply have exchanged one type of slavery for another, with a little freedom break in between.

All these things are the intention of socialism, and it will be extremely successful if we try it.

Very good analysis of socialism. The ironic thing is that the crowd that whines about slavery from over 150 years ago will soon vote all of us into slavery. We are 3 months away from potentially committing national suicide.

Re: 92 days until Democracy dies***

On the bright side, for the anti second amendment crowd, and the anti Christian side if we get the full blown version of socialism, like Venezuela, Soviet Russia, and Nazi Germany, We lose our arms, (take away the peoples means of rising against the government), and then we'll take away their Church, thereby taking away their hope. I don't know for sure, I wasn't there, but from what I've read, that's how it went down.

Or maybe we'll get socialism light, like Greece, (think it was Greece, I know it was one of the Baltic countries), the socialist government had screwed things up so bad, that people could not even get their money out of banks. They had no way to buy food or keep the roof over their head. I think the US and European Union had to bail them out. Or Sweden. Sweden voted in a socialist government. The lady that wrote the Pipi Longstocking books was a leading proponent of the socialist movement until...she wound up having to pay ninety six percent of her income toward taxes. She soon realized; maybe this wasn't such a good idea. They have since moved away from socialism, but the people still have to pay sixty six percent income taxes, trying to fix what they had already screwed up, and there's no telling how long that will be.

Lifelong republican but we went and elected The the biggest narcissist / wanna be dictator in the world and things caught up to him with the pandemic, I guess we are going to have to pay the price now. Would be great if Trump would pull the plug on it and let Pence or someone else with a reasonable amount of actual leadership ability take control. Not much time to pull a rabbit out of the hat and it is truly Sad that we only have two very bad choices to choose from, but maybe we learn someday that our two party system is broken. It is all about which party wins and not about what is best for ALL Americans.

In 2016 it was Trump or Hillary, IMO the best choice of those 2 won. Now it's Trump and Biden. I'll let you make your own decision. At this point, the better choice is clear to me.

This battle is NOT ABOUT TRUMP

Aug 3, 2020, 4:58 PM

and so-called Republicans who aren't voting for him are short-sighted in the extreme, criminally so in my view. This isn't about Trump, it's about Republic-an ideals and values, something the Democrats will destroy because the Blacks, Gays, and a fair number of women simply want Power under any heading.

I've been to Russia twice - once before the changeover and twice after. They currently have the Power-Politics style that allows for Corruption on such a grand scale you're almost always teetering on the edge of internal genocide, if not actually doing it.

The Democrats would LOVE to have that Government.

The thing is though, in talking to people in Russia, the privileged 2%, petty criminals, and prostitutes and their handlers aside, most everyone else would accept Communism back in a heartbeat. They're scared all the time.

But when you look in their eyes it's enough to make you scared. Everyone of them looks beaten down to the point of almost death. There literally is no Hope there. They've had hundreds of years of Tyranny in one form or another, and at some point each Tyranny is simply another name put on it. It doesn't matter: Socialism, Naziism, Communism, Marxism, Authoritarianism, etc. ad nauseam. Each is simply another form of the void of Freedom.

That's what the Democrats want to do. Lose this Election and Democracy is dead.

Aug 4, 2020, 12:55 PM

your problem is. If Trump is a crook, that would simply be carrying on the tradition set by the Clintons and followed by the Obamas.

It's my experience that Older Democrats have a unique Flaw in their mental and emotional approach: basically they have been telling themselves that THEY are the righteous ones ever since Vietnam, and they haven't tested that theory again in the 50 years hence. They've managed to pass on this peculiar Arrogance to the next generation as well - you never see a single youthful Liberal even question whether they have any clue about what Social Justice really is.

So if the definition of "Insanity" is not being connected to the evidentiary and factual world around them, and the people in it, then in my view a fair share of Liberal Democrats are simply "insane". They're not connected with the reality of who they themselves are, their position in the world, or how their opinions and views actually come off.

Saying Trump is a "crook" is case in point. The Democrats had their opportunity over 3+ years to find and present conclusive evidence of his "criminality". They have failed to do so spectacularly, and in such a way that it appears they, themselves, may be held criminally liable. Popcorn, anyone?

Aug 3, 2020, 6:02 PM [ in reply to Re: 92 days until Democracy dies*** ]

I don't think a two party system is the problem. The problem is we have like you said; narcissistic politicians, with only self satisfaction in mind. Give me a statesman, not a politician, that has only his countries well being in mind, one that has some common sense and knows how to use it, and has the cahoonies not to back down when he's right, and I don't care if he's republican, democrat, or independent. I don't care if he's black, white, or pink and purple polkie dotted, I'll vote for him. I remember many years ago, reading a book about one of the early presidential elections. I don't remember the candidates, maybe Adams the first was one, I'm not sure of the other, of course it was a heated race. When the election became final and a winner was named, the losing candidate shook the winners hand and said; now let us work together for the betterment of our country. That's what it should be all about. Our country not ourselves.

Notice I did not include the socialist in my list of parties I would support. Anyone whose answer to opposition is violence, or a concentration camp, or a blindfold and a cigarette, is not someone I could really get behind.

Clover, you ever see the Daniel Day Lewis version of The Last of The Mohicans? There was a part in the movie where Hawkeye and his Indian brothers were preparing to move out of the territory. Their settler friends asked them why. Hawkeyes reply was; it's getting to crowded around here. Settlers moved in about ten miles from us. They're right on top of us. The settler then asked; where will you go. He said; we don't know. We're heading west, and when we get there, we'll know it. Man! That was freedom! To bad there isn't any more west to go to.

Panama, when Covid is controlled and when US and rest of the Americas has a true vaccine,
30 - 45 minutes or less from the mountains and the beaches.
A 1st world country, that runs in slow motion much of the time.
I hire someone to fix a problem on Monday at 9am, he may not show up until 11am or 9am on Tuesday; but he will show up.
English is spoken throughout and those that don't have conversational English mastered.
Dollar is the currency, as it is in most countries in the Americas.
Compared to SC, geographically and weather wise. I prefer the mountains. 70s - low 80s daytime and high 50s - 60s at night. No active volcanoes, no earthquakes and never have hurricanes.
I am 30 minutes from the ocean to the south and 75 minutes to the north.
Whole country has WiFi internet, even in Tribal areas.
And the Indians and small townspeople are more friendly than some in the big city.
A word of warning, that I refused to believe back in 2005.
If you visit, you will return to SC (in my case) and sell you house, pack what you want to carry and return to Panama. I have had several friends to do that. Or do so when you retire.
Likewise, a couple settled in Costa Rica.
Many of the rural areas have became resort areas in the past 15 years.
My Doctors are all at the John Hopkins hospital, so I feel safe in that manner.
Oh about to forget, I have never missed Clemson game during this time. (or any big national game)
And have chose to watch many Coot games for loads of laughs.
The PAW ranks just below the Yankees and Cowboys, along with the Aggies and Gators.
" pura vida"

they shold pay me for all this.
