Well, 5 starters palyed all 92 snaps Saturday for 1.

Our best 2 interior dline players (Williams, Reader) played 45 snaps combined. Steph Anthony and Tony Steward did not play a single snap on defense and we constantly use a freshman safety as a Strongside Linebacker. It's pretty obvious why we wore down. It wasn't conditioning it was bad roster management.

Because that was the most consistently wide open Clemson opponent I have ever witnessed. If Auburn had a half decent QB, we would have gotten killed in that game.
Coverage actually got better through the year, but that ain't saying much.

they could have used Reader more than 20 and Williams more than 20 and Watkins more than 0. They could have used our 5 star linebackers, on of which is second on the team in tackles, more than 0 snaps. I'm just saying. Maybe we dont look so tired if we split up the PT a little bit better.

just off the top of my head. Those offenses look a little different based on the players on those teams and how they use them but that is the idea behind all of those teams' offenses.

I understand many were unscripted because of the pressure Saturday, but we were extremely predictable in the second half against FSU.

Serious question and not meant as a flame at all, but here goes. Do you really think FSU has the second best defense in the country? The two tough teams they played (Florida and Clemson) they allowed 37 points each game. I think FSU's defensive ranking is very misleading because of games against Murray State, Savannah State, South Florida, and an easy ACC slate.

You need to apply for the OC when Morris leaves.

except MAYBE Texas A&M (and theirs is better, maybe not light years, but it is better).
Our Defense, not our Offense, cost us the USuC game (although I admit that I was not crazy about the Offensive gameplan). Can't get off the field on 3rd and a Mile, well, you deserve to lose...
The Offense won us a lot of games this year... have some of you already forgotten 2010 already?????

the D at a disadvantage. Even if our Scheme and Depth were as good as Alabama we would not have the defensive numbers they have because while we are running 90 offensice plays our opponent is running 70 or so. Bama's opponents are getting 40 because Bama plays a slow methodical offense that shortens the game.

Completely agree and I have believed for some time
Nov 29, 2012, 1:54 PM

that the faster pace offenses will actually result in two things:
1. The better team winning more often, largely because running more plays is going to give the better team more opportunities against the weaker team.
2. More blowouts, largely for the same reason.
I think this goes back to the "shot clock" in basketball. 40 years ago, a team with less talent could stall the game, play keep away, keep the game close and hope to win something ugly like 26-24. As the shot clock came along, creating more possessions, the more skilled team becomes more and more likely to win.
The fast-paced offense is pretty much the same thing in football. A game with 180 plays run will more likely result in the skilled team winning than a game with 125 plays run. That's just common sense.
Also, only one game, ONE GAME, this entire CU season was decided by less than 10 points (the first one, which was 7 points). I don't think this is at all a coincidence. More plays equals more opportunity to separate yourself from competition, and avoid an upset, IF you have more talent.
I would argue that the only teams on our schedule with similar talent are: Auburn, FSU, USuC. So, our offense did what it was designed to do, blow out weaker teams.
And, in our two losses, our defense, not our offense, was the culprit (and our D is where we are talent deficient, especially in the secondary).

mediocre and needs to improve. I was simply saying it won't rank among the top defenses even when it becomes one because it will have to defend more plays and therefore give up more yards and possibly points. I'm pretty sure we led at the half in both our losses this year though and perhaps the lack of rotation on the d line and subsequent lack of pass rush later in games caused a bad secondary to get exposed.

QB of spread teams that have won the NC - Tebow, Newton
Nov 29, 2012, 2:09 PM
|
|
In other words, they had a freak of nature at QB. Both could get tough running yards, just in different ways. I think if I were building an offense/team to win the NC, I'd likely build it to be a little more conventional, but that's not to say that a spread team, minus a freak, won't ever do it.
