Stay over in Pinellas County at the beach.

If you are there for a few days and it's an easy 30-45 minute drive. Clearwater Beach and south; there tons of hotels.

Like all things, it depends.
If you want to add beach, then st pete pinellas area is good. Will be pricey.
If simply looking for safe stay - with good restaurants in area and not far from stadium, then would go for westshore ave. it has several moderate to nice hotels.
