Help me understand the new playoff format & ACC possibilitie

May 14, 2013, 5:40 AM

In the 2014, 2017, 2020 & 2023 seasons the Sugar & Rose host the semi-finals and in the 2016, 2019, 2022 & 2025 seasons the Peach & Fiesta host the semi- finals so ACC Champ goes to the Orange unless selected for the College Football Playoff (CFP) then the Orange has to select a 2nd ACC team of their choice so then minimum of 2 ACC teams make the dance

In the 2015, 2018, 2021 & 2024 seasons the Orange & Cotton host the semi-finals if the ACC Champ is not selected for a semi-final Bowl then the ACC champ goes to either the Peach or Fiesta because the Sugar has a guaranteed SEC/Big 12 matchup and the Rose has a guaranteed PAC12/Big10 matchup. However if the ACC Champ is selected for the Semi-final bowl there is no guarantee a 2nd ACC will get selected in the dance in one of the 4 (2 really) other bowls.

CFP Championship game is selected by by bid at random sites never in the same city as the semi-final game

Is this correct?

The ACC has yet to sign a contract with a bowl for the champion to play in when the OB hosts a semi-final game. I think Capital One in place of the Big 10 (if they're in the OB) is in that discussion.
