Can anyone see the resemblance between the platoon and the American people?

I don’t know kinda reminds me of Americans going in to war against something without any conception of what war means. They don’t think about the casualties of war just their daily lives in the barracks.
They have never seen combat or given much thought to it because their life is status quo and nothing can upset that.
Until war happens.

Grenada? I thought you were talking about as a cross section of America.

Yep. Has nothing to do with the campaign has everything to do with the battle.

Your clarification helped. Yes, even with one death, it hits home. In that case because it was one of the platoon. Death/danger is always an abstract idea until something affects you or a loved one. As those who have served know, those next to you are like family and the real reason sacrifices are made.

Yep you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone. My very first girlfriend lost her oldest daughter yesterday. 36 yrs old my heart breaks for her family. Possible heart issue? Don’t know yet but still life is short. I’m not afraid of anything, but we cannot live our lives in fear of the unknown. If our kids and grandkids are going to know America as we do today, we have to make choices. And some may not turn out well for each of us. But I’m willing to sacrifice today for a better tomorrow for future generations. God Speed.

Prayers for her loss and those lost. That is a true dichotomy of life. Living life like it’s your last day, but also planning as if you’ll never die. Not knowing.

And for anyone who has not seen this movie it’s worth your time. Not sure what’s its playing on now but you should be able to find it.

movie about the battle for "Heartbreak Ridge" that was fought in the Korean War. My old man was a Korean War vet - Mike Company, 27th Infantry Regiment - aka "Wolfhounds". The Korean War vets really are the forgotten generation...
