Has instant replay really helped the game?

I believe the refs are a little gun shy. The “targeting” call has been especially difficult to get right. Other than out of bounds plays I can’t say it has helped the game that much. What is the feelings of tnet coaches?

As the father of two football referees, I take strong exception to your remark. Take your creepy paranoia elsewhere.

Bama/Tenn games? Replay didn't eliminate that. All replay did was solidify my opinion that if their top teams are in close games the SEC uses the refs to ensure they didn't have another top 10 loss for the conference, like SCar beating UGA. There's too much at stake financially. The sum is greater than the parts in the SEC, and SCar and Tenn took one for the conference.

And before you call me a coot or something, I don't care that they or Tenn lost. I do care about college football being on the level and the SEC isn't above pulling something like that given the money and prestige involved.

It certainly has helped in "fumble or no fumble" situations.

Not so much in "catch or no catch" situations, as what appear to be catches to any normal human being get called incomplete with regularity.

and resulting commercial breaks, and lengthening games in general.

I like that it changes egregious errors, but it does not fix them all, and maybe the errors pre-replay balanced themselves out.
