Happy about K'Von's return - wish it would become a tradition

Jan 11, 2019, 1:51 PM

I'm very glad K.Wallace will be back.

I suppose it's beyond reasonable to wish for it - but it would be great if CU became the place where - NOBODY LEAVES UNTIL ELIGIBILITY IS USED UP.

It worked out well for that D line (and I'm aware that some COULD have even returned for the '19 season) - but I just think it would be fantastic if we became known as "the place where players rarely - if ever - leave before their last eligible year is done."

If it became a "symbol of honor" to stay, it could spread & become like a West Point kind of thing. "Hey man, players don't just LEAVE Clemson early - it's just not part of the culture here!"

I bet 90-95% of the time it would work out A-OK for the players. It would increase CU's prestige - and the media would buzz about it every year. "As we all know - most if not all of those key Clemson players who just won another championship will be back next year, which is why Dabo & Clemson keep piling up trophies. We talk about it every year & it's just who they are. It's a big reason - if not THE biggest - why they're so hard to dethrone."

I suppose it's like wishing my garage were filled with gold bullion, but I think if the momentum got going, it MIGHT someday grow large enough to be difficult to say no to (for most). Like I said - kind of a "symbol of honor."

Well, nobody really expected the entire D line back in '18 - but it happened. Few thought Baker Mayfield would be back for his senior year - but it happened.

I think it would be very cool if that became the "Clemson norm." It would almost never be 100%, but what if it became 90% true on average?

Some will say, "If that became widespread at CU, we'd NEVER get the needed 'blue-chippers' to sign & just wait a year or 2." But see, they wouldn't be waiting since we always rotate guys in already - we could just rotate MORE. We could tell rising seniors, "Man, if you come back, you're probably playing only 20-25 plays a game - we gotta get these NEW guys in too."

We wouldn't recruit at an elite level if everyone at Clemson

I think Dabo has it right, graduation is what matters.
